While the residents of Emmerdale may not have the best of luck when it comes to love, it's a different story for some of the soap's cast members.

Emmerdale is renowned for its dramatic plots, from murders to car crashes and even shocking kidnapping twists. On-screen relationships are equally tumultuous, often ending in disaster. However, away from the fictional village, a number of actors from the ITV hit soap have found love with their co-stars, leading to marriages and children.

Meanwhile, there are some soap stars who are sadly no longer together and have decided to go their separate ways. Surprisingly, there is even a TV soap crossover with one couple from Emmerdale and EastEnders.

Here’s a look at some of the most notable stars who have found love on Emmerdale.

Toby-Alexander Smith and Amy Walsh

Amy Walsh, known for her role as Tracy Metcalfe in Emmerdale, is married to EastEnders actor Toby-Alexander Smith. In September 2023, the couple tied the knot after three years together. They first met in the audience of Strictly Come Dancing in 2019, where Amy was supporting her former castmate Kelvin Fletcher, who played Andy Sugden.

Meanwhile, Toby was cheering on his co-star Emma Barton, who plays Honey Mitchell. In 2021, Amy fell pregnant with the couple’s first child, and they now have a daughter named Bonnie reports Manchester Evening News.

Charley Webb and Matthew Wolfenden

Matthew Wolfenden, who plays David Metcalfe, joined Emmerdale four years after Charley Webb in 2006.

He proposed to Charley, who portrays Debbie Dingle, on Christmas Day in 2009. The couple has since had three sons – Buster, Bowie, and Ace – following a nine-year engagement.

After a 20-year relationship, the couple shocked fans by announcing their split in 2023, with Matthew subsequently moving on with his Elf musical co-star.

Jeff Hordley and Zoe Henry

Emmerdale’s Jeff Hordley and Zoe Henry, known for their roles as Cain Dingle and Rhona Goskirk respectively, may not share many scenes on-screen, but off-screen, they are very much in love. The pair met at drama school before joining Emmerdale and are now happily married with two children.

Natalie J Robb and Johnny McPherson

Despite their characters Moira Dingle and Dr. Liam Cavanagh not being an obvious match on Emmerdale, actors Natalie J Robb and Johnny McPherson found romance off-screen. They kept their relationship under wraps initially, but went public in 2020 when they moved in together during the Coronavirus lockdown.

Unfortunately, the relationship ended after a year, with Natalie finding it too “intense” to live with someone so early into their relationship.

Michelle Hardwick and Kate Brooks

Vanessa Woodfield actress Michelle Hardwick and Emmerdale producer Kate Brooks also found love on set. The couple confirmed their relationship on Twitter in 2018 and later tied the knot in a special ceremony in Memphis, Tennessee.

The couple have two children together, Edward Peter Brooks, affectionately known as Teddy, born in 2020, and Betty Brooks, who arrived in 2022.

Dominic Brunt and Joanne Mitchell

Paddy Kirk actor Dominic Brunt is married to Joanne Mitchell, who briefly starred in the soap as Sandra Flaherty, the stepmother of Aaron Livesy.

The pair first met while studying at Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, and together they share two children, and when they’re not busy on set, the duo also find time to run the annual Leeds Horror Film Festival.

Chris Chitell and Lesley Dunlop

One of Emmerdale’s most unexpected couples is Eric Pollard and Brenda Walker, portrayed by Chris Chittell and Lesley Dunlop. Their on-screen chemistry and banter caught the eye of viewers, and fans were thrilled when they became a couple off-screen.

They began dating in 2008 when Lesley joined the cast, got engaged in 2015, and married the following year.

Fiona Wade and Simon Cotton

Fiona Wade, famous for her role as Priya Sharma, is in a relationship with her former on-screen love interest, Simon Cotton. The sparks flew when they met on set. They got engaged in 2018 and tied the knot a year later. Despite no longer working together, their romance continues to flourish.

Chelsea Halfpenny and James Baxter

Chelsea Halfpenny, known for her role as Amy Wyatt in Emmerdale until 2013, found romance with her former co-star James Baxter, who portrayed Jake Doland on the soap. The pair initially connected on social media and began dating in 2018, before announcing their engagement in 2021.
