You will be ABSOLUTELY SHOCKED by why viewers are outraged over Dr Todd’s death — because many believe something about it feels deeply wrong

Emmerdale fans have – quite rightly – expressed their anger towards Doctor Caitlin Todd (Caroline Harker) being killed off.

At the end of yesterday’s episode of the ITV soap, a flashforward aired that confirmed Dr Todd will be murdered by someone in the near future.

The evil surgeon returned to the show earlier this year, as part of a storyline that saw her bully resident doctor Jacob Sugden (Joe-Warren Plant).

Shortly after Doctor Todd helped Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) give birth to baby Leyla, she discovered that the little girl isn’t Jacob and Sarah Sugden’s (Katie Hill) child.

She proceeded to blackmail Charity over this secret, making her life a living hell.

On Sarah’s 21st birthday, Doctor Todd raped Charity. In the immediate aftermath, Charity went to the police, reported the attack, and was interviewed by DS Reid (Angela Lonsdale).

The detective questioned Caitlin the next day, but she said that the sex she had with Charity was consensual. Because of this, and the lack of physical evidence, Caitlin was let go. She left the village, and now works in Sheffield.

Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb) confronted Doctor Todd this week, vowing to get revenge after learning about what she put Charity through.

He was sent away after Todd called security on him. Before he left the hospital, Mack told Doctor Todd that if she goes near Charity again, he will ‘bury her’.

Moments later, we saw Caitlin lying on the floor in a pool of blood.

The confirmation that Doctor Todd has been killed has left many fans of the show pretty horrified.

On our Metro Soaps Facebook page, a number of our readers have called this twist disappointing, arguing that the soap should’ve shown Doctor Todd going to prison.

Anne wrote: ‘I know it’s a drama but just for once I’d like to see one of these abusers in the soaps actually get found guilty and go to prison, just to show real life victims that sometimes there is hope and to report crimes, killing them violently might be great tells but it’s not real life.’

Tasha added: ‘Be great if the Soaps started showing us what proper justice looked like- maybe to encourage real life victims to speak up. Getting sick of Corrie & Emmerdale always killing off the villains.’

Dave echoed this and said: ‘Great another villian killed off, rather than face justice. Writer’s seriously try a different conclusion for a change.’

Kaz noted: ‘Disappointed just like John they don’t face justice so much for encouraging people to speak out.’

Also adding to the overwhelming amount of people who believe Doctor Todd shouldn’t have been murdered, Dot wrote: ‘Need to be arrested to many getting away soaps need to realise it happens in real life.’

Linda shared: ‘Why can’t she just be arrested and go to prison? Why are all these characters just being killed off not very realistic!’.

A number of people will find themselves on the list of suspects when Doctor Todd’s dead body is discovered.

The obvious faces who could’ve committed the crime are Mackenize, Charity, Jacob and Sarah.

There’s also every chance it could end up being Vanessa Woodfield (Michelle Hardwick), Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley), Chas Dingle (Lucy Pargeter), Ross Barton (Michael Parr), Noah Dingle (Jack Downham), Ryan Stocks (James Moore), or Serena Sugden (Casey Al-Shaqsy).
