Perfect replacement for BBC’s Death in Paradise will have viewers ‘hooked’
Brooke Shields stars in an addictive murder mystery that fans have likened to Death in Paradise
Fans of Death in Paradise will love a new murder mystery series that premieres in the UK this week.
The long-running BBC drama is set on the small fictional Caribbean island of Saint Marie. It follows several British Detective Inspectors, who are dispatched to the island to solve various crimes.
Death in Paradise and its spin-off, Beyond Paradise, have become some of the most-loved UK dramas. But while we wait for new episodes to air, some viewers have found the perfect replacement.
Much like the charming location of Saint Marie, new six-part drama You’re Killing Me is set in a quaint town, which is home to lots of crime.
A quiet New England town is rocked by its first homicide case, with a bestselling novelist and aspiring writer and podcaster soon teaming up to solve it, reports the Mirror.
Allie (played by Brooke Shields) and Andi (Amalia Williamson) are determined to track down the person who killed a close friend.
They soon meet a local detective called Jack (Tom Cavanagh), who is trying to find his feet after moving from the big city.
A first-look trailer sees Allie and Andi begin their work on what appears to be the first murder the town has seen. “This place was a sleepy little town,” one character notes, before another adds: “We don’t do homicides here.”
The series first premiered in North America back in May, with UK viewers set to get their taste of small-town murder on Friday, August 21.
Brookie, Amalia and Tom are joined in the cast by Sea Change’s Laura Kohoot, Unwritten’s Gabriel Burrafato, A Christmas Carousel’s Jennifer Vallance, Flower Shop Mysteries’ Kate Drummond, and Sullivan’s Crossing star Kian Zarkechvari.
After tuning into the series earlier this year, fans quickly shared its similarities to Death in Paradise.
“Anyone watching this show with Brooke Shields as the main character? The commercials reminded me of DIP… just because it’s a lighthearted murder mystery series,” one person wrote on Reddit.
Another agreed: “I like it. It’s from Acorn that specialises in shows featuring quirky detectives of a certain age. Agatha Raisin, Mystery Women, Harry Wild and Death in Paradise fall into that category.”
An IMDb user similarly shared their praise: “Highly recommend. You’re Killing Me is witty, easy to follow, charming and interesting. It’s similar to Murder She Wrote in many ways.”
Someone else said they were instantly “hooked”, while another wrote: “Holds our attention. Fast paced. Characters are likable and mysteries are interesting. Interesting use of the location. And … it’s episodic so we don’t have to remember exactly what happened last week!”
You’re Killing Me lands on Channel 4 and U on Friday, August 21
