Nadia Sawalha speaks out on Loose Women future with cryptic comment
Loose Women star Nadia Sawalha has been absent from the ITV show for several weeks, instead keeping in touch with fans through her own independent shows
Nadia Sawalha has dropped a hint about her future on Loose Women, following reports she was suspended from the programme. The 61-year-old hasn’t appeared on the panel since April, when she featured alongside Christine Lampard, Coleen Nolan and Jane Moore.
Following rumours surrounding Nadia’s absence, ITV issued a statement to refute claims that she had been suspended.
In a recent interview with Bella Magazine, the presenter finally addressed her future on the show, telling the magazine: “Let me just say this, we’ll have an answer on that very soon!”.
This comes after Nadia expressed concerns about a huge change to the show, as part of an ITV shake-up.
In January, episodes of the lunchtime staple were cut to 30 weeks annually, and it no longer features a live studio audience.
Speaking about the transformation, Nadia disclosed that some of her behind-the-scenes colleagues had lost their jobs.
“We’re all going to miss the audience terribly, but how it will affect the dynamic of the show, who knows?,” she shared.
“The audience has always been the fifth Loose Women, it’s going to be very strange, it’s sad, but it’s the sign of the times.”
She added to Woman’s Weekly Magazine: “I’m just really upset about my friends and colleagues – the crew – that were made redundant.
“I am worried, because we’re all worried all the time in this world that we live in. Everything is so precarious.”
As part of the ITV scheduling overhaul, Good Morning Britain was lengthened by 30 minutes, broadcasting from 6am to 9:30am each weekday.
This meant that its successor programme Lorraine was reduced from one hour to 30 minutes, and it now only transmits 30 weeks of the year.
During her absence from the show, Nadia and her husband Mark Adderley have continued engaging with followers via their YouTube channel, which boasts 157,000 subscribers.
Additionally, they unveiled their programme Mrs and Mister: Lunchtime Laugh alongside their podcast Coffee Moaning. Previously discussing their lunchtime programme, she revealed: “I’m in the driving seat. I’m in charge and this is the way it’s always going to be.”
She continued: “We’ve been talking for a long while about doing this. This is lifestyle stuff, silly stuff. And there will be one serious topic [a day].”
Nadia has previously tackled allegations of her supposedly being suspended from the Loose Women roster.
Speaking on Instagram, she declared: “Thank you all so much for all your lovely messages but listen, don’t worry guys, there’s loads of lies going around at the moment.
“One of which is that I have been suspended from Loose Women. I have not been suspended from Loose Women.”
The former EastEnders actress has been part of the programme for approximately 16 years on television. She first appeared in 1999 and remained until 2002, before making her comeback in 2013.
