An Emmerdale stalwart has found herself out of work just days before Christmas.

Lydia Dingle, played by Karen Blick, was left stunned in recent episodes of the ITV soap when her employer Kim Tate, portrayed by Claire King, revealed she’s bequeathing her Home Farm to her in her will.

Kim and her horse Ice were involved in a severe accident last week while Kim was investigating reports of unlawful shooting on her property. While Kim is recuperating from her injuries, the prognosis for Ice was grim, with experts declaring his injury fatal.

Joe Tate, played by Ned Porteous, felt he had no choice but to euthanise him. This news devastated Kim, who blamed Joe and furiously berated him for making the decision without consulting her.

Lydia was consumed with guilt, aware that it was her husband Sam Dingle (James Hooton) who arranged the illegal shoot as a means to raise funds for the Dingles. She aided him by keeping Kim preoccupied, partly due to her resentment towards Kim at the time.

However, unbeknownst to her, Kim had planned a surprise visit from Lydia’s idol Jason Donovan especially for her.

Lydia’s guilt intensified when Kim named her as a significant beneficiary in her will. She confessed about her and Sam’s money-raising scheme which led to Ice’s d.e.a.t.h during Friday’s (December 19) episode, now available for streaming on ITVX.

Kim confronted the duo: “You betrayed me. Your employment here is over now get out of my sight.”

As Sam departed, Kim turned to Lydia: “I may have expected it from him but I thought you were my friend.”

A remorseful Lydia responded: “I’m so sorry” but Kim retorted: “Sorry? just words, more lies. After everything I’ve done for you. If you only needed something you only had to ask, I thought you knew that.”

Lydia admitted: “I don’t have any excuses” whilst Kim reminded her: “You know what this place means to me. I thought you understood. Everything I’ve ever worked for, everything I’ve loved and I was ready to give it all to you.”

An anxious Lydia pleaded: “Just tell me what I need to do to make things up to you.”

Kim declared: “Nothing you can do can make things like they were. I have made this mistake before and I’m never going to trust anyone again after this. You’re sacked. I never want to see you up here again.”

A tearful Lydia maintained: “You’re right it’s just words but you’ll never know how sorry I am. How much I wish this had never happened.”

As Lydia prepared to leave, Kim added: “Oh Lydia, I really wanted to believe you were different from the rest.”

Both women were visibly upset following their confrontation but could this truly signal the end of their unexpected friendship?

Emmerdale airs weeknights on ITV1 at 7.30pm and available to stream from 7am on ITVX
