ITV soap fans left fuming at schedule shake-up as they insist they are ‘sick’ of it
Some Emmerdale and Coronation Street fans were unimpressed by changes to this week's viewing schedule
Soap fans were left fuming after ITV confirmed a schedule shake-up.
The channel’s soaps Emmerdale and Coronation Street usually air at 8pm and 8.30pm in the week, in what the broadcaster has called the “soaps power hour”. However, with the FIFA World Cup underway, there have been changes to the schedule.
ITV has now posted a message on Instagram confirming that neither Emmerdale or Corrie will air tonight (Monday, June 29).
“Team Soap fans, here’s your fixture changes for this week!” it said, before revealing that from Tuesday to Friday, fans will get their trip to the Dales at 7.15pm, while instalments from the cobbles will air from 8.15pm to 8.45pm.
However, many viewers were unimpressed, with one posting in the comments: “It does my head in that things get moved for football. We are not all fans.”
Another commented: “I do not understand in an age of stream everything why do soaps have to miss days? Surely boomers like me can stream.”
“Please ITV can we upload episodes onto ITVX at the beginning of the week and not have this malarkey going on!” asked somebody else. “It’s very stressful for people like me who are autistic and need routine.”
“Can’t we just miss the soaps only when England plays,” another viewer suggested, as someone else admitted they were “sick” of the football.
“Football should go on the sports channels because that’s what it’s classified as, so put it on there, you’re going to get the same figures,” said one person.
Another viewer suggested: “I just don’t get why they can’t put them on ITV2 or on ITVX instead of messing soap fans around. Plus I don’t understand why we need to show every single game if it’s not a home game.”
However, other soap fans were just pleased that the shows would still be on this week.
One posted: “At least we have almost every day not only three like the past week, I am so glad for this.”
“For some people football really helps their mental health,” pointed out another viewer. “Football isn’t just simply people kicking a ball around the pitch.”
