A Channel 5 reality star who also appeared in Emmerdale went from earning a whopping £40,000 per day to asking the benefits office for help. Laura Carter is best known for her appearance on Big Brother in 2016, but has also had acting roles in various soaps, including an episode of Emmerdale in 2010, in which she played Beth. She has also appeared in Doctors, Casualty and The Syndicate.

But Laura became best known for her on-screen romp with her Big Brother co-star Marco Pierre White Jr., who was engaged at the time. Though she landed glamour modelling jobs after her TV stint and posed for the cover of Playboy, Laura fell pregnant with her son Jaxon and had to return to the UK from Los Angeles.

Speaking about her circumstances on the RESET the Pod podcast, she said: “I’d gone from doing jobs where I could pretty much earn 40 grand in a day [to] when I had Jaxon, I had nothing, I had spent all my money.

“I was no longer with his dad. I remember sitting in my flat, which was a beautiful flat, and I remember thinking, ‘How the hell am I going to pay for this?’.

“And I was too proud to ask for any help, and I remember somebody said to me, ‘Why don’t you ask for help’, and I said, ‘What do you mean?’, they were like, ‘Why don’t you ask for help from the government?’ as in benefits.”

Laura attended a benefits appointment, but said the meeting was a “wake-up call” to sort herself out.

She explained: “I couldn’t believe it had got to that point. I stood up, said ‘Thank you,’ and walked out. That was the reset.”

She launched a subscription service on OnlyFans to supplement her income, but says sleeping with White on the show is a regret she “has to live with for the rest of her life” after splitting Marco from his fiancée Kim Melville-Smith.

Crediting OnlyFans for “saving her life”, Laura said: “I went from sitting in the benefits office to having so much money a month later.”
