EastEnders favourite Natalie Cassidy has said the ghost of her late mother visited her home. And not only that, she even left an imprint in her bed.

The soap star, who played much-loved Sonia Fowler on Albert Square, reckons her “lovely mum” Evelyn appeared to give her blessing to her relationship with her now husband. Since then, the EastEnders star has become convinced of her mum’s presence in her house.

Speaking about her experience, actress Natalie, 42, revealed: “About two weeks after I’d got together with Marc, I was in bed asleep one night and I woke up to this baking hot sensation. It felt like I’d just got off an aeroplane in a hot country.

“I opened my eyes and saw my mum sitting at the end of my bed, smiling at me,” she recalled. “I blinked and blinked again.

“She wasn’t floating like a ghost or an apparition – she was very real and there were folds in the duvet around where she was sitting. Petrified, I reached out to my bedside light and switched it on. In an instant, the warmth was gone and so was Mum.”

Natalie admitted that before the spooky incident she had previously not been someone who had believed “one way or another in the supernatural”. But after her brush with the spiritual form, she was left shaken and needed to reach out to her partner as soon as it was over.

She continued: “It was about two o’clock in the morning, but I immediately picked up the phone and rang Marc. And I said, ‘The weirdest thing has just happened to me.’

“That fleeting moment was over very quickly,” she admitted, “but I won’t ever forget that warmth and Mum’s smile. I absolutely believe it was Mum showing me that she was happy for me that I’d met Marc.”

In the wake of her supernatural experience, she became a much more fervent believer in the other side. But it also left her worried at what could be next for her as she stumbled into a potentially dangerous new world.

“After that, I became more scared of being on my own at night than I had been before,” she confessed. “It was an amazing experience but it wasn’t a comfort, and I didn’t ever want it to happen again.”

Natalie, who quit the BBC soap earlier this year after a lengthy span of 32 years, confessed in her new memoir Happy Days that she can’t get the apparition out of her mind. She added: “Even now, I’ll lie in bed and think of it.

“People say, ‘You had your head in the clouds after meeting Marc, so maybe it didn’t actually happen, maybe it was a dream.’ Maybe they’re right and it was just a very vivid dream, who knows?

“Mum had passed away 11 years earlier, but I felt her presence and I saw her. I’ve never had an experience like it since.”
