EastEnders fans are sure they know who stole Jasmine Fisher’s phone – which has evidence her murder of Anthony Trueman was self-defence – but it’s not the dastardly Chrissie Watts.

Since Chrissie (Tracy-Ann Oberman) returned last week, it became clear that she no longer has any warm feelings for her former protege Jasmine (Indeyarna Donaldson-Holness). The two had worked together to torment Jasmine’s mother Zoe Slater (Michelle Ryan), but after learning that Jasmine had said tried to frame her for Anthony’s (Nicholas Bailey) murder, Chrissie turned on her.

Their explosive reunion was seen this week. As Jasmine’s grandmother, Kat Slater (Jessie Wallace) tried to question her about Anthony’s murder, Chrissie stormed in and grabbed Jasmine by the hair. Her cruel treatment on the teen had her thrown out of the pub, while Jasmine admitted to Kat that she had really killed Anthony.

In tonight’s episode (17 February), the fallout continued as Jasmine tried to convince Kat that it was self-defence. She said she had a video on her phone that proved it, but when she went down to the Vic to get her bag, she discovered it had gone and frantically started searching for her phone. But someone had taken it.

While some thought it must be Chrissie given her new vendetta against the girl, with one saying: “Either Jake or Chrissie secretly nabbed Jasmine’s bag with the evidence on her phone so she couldn’t use it to let herself off.” But other fans noticed that it was likely someone else – none other than Jasmine’s former nemesis Cindy Beale (Michelle Collins).

Jasmine and Cindy first clashed towards the end of 2025. After months of being weirdly interested in Cindy, Jasmine panicked when the older woman questioned her about her past, leading her to push Cindy down the stairs in a brutal attack. Fans were sure an interaction between Cindy and Chrissie meant Cindy had stolen her phone.

“I thought that the bag Cindy gave Chrissie was Jasmines, it just felt kinda odd if it wasn’t,” said one fan, referencing a moment where Cindy saw Chrissie in the Prince Albert and gave her a huge brown shoulder bag.

Another added: “That would almost be fitting. Cindy was desperate to get rid of Jasmine and she had a chance encounter with a villain she’d never met.”

A third pointed out that the bag Cindy gave Chrissie couldn’t be the one that Jasmine lost, as they were very different, but they still felt Chrissie was to blame.

“I defo think it’s Cindy because she has unfinished business with Jasmine and I do think her interaction with Chrissie is meaningful, but the bag she gave her wasn’t Jasmine’s. Jasmine’s bag was small and black, while the one Chrissie was given was huge and brown and for sure not something someone with Jasmine’s grungy style would wear. Also wouldn’t Chrissie have said ‘this isn’t my bag’?” the fan said. They added: “100% agree it’s meaningful because it’s such a weird conversation to have otherwise.”

Other fans thought Sam Mitchell (Kim Metcalfe) might be involved. The motive is not clear but there was a small moment in the show that pointed to it being her.

“I thought I saw Sam with [Jasmine’s] phone, putting in her bag unless it was her phone,” said one fan. Another added: “I thought she was watching the video of jasmine killing Anthony. Although I did think why watch this in the middle of a busy pub.”

Either way, it is unlikely to be Chrissie, as she appears to have once again left the soap. Towards the end of the episode, Chrissie and her now fiance Jake Moon (Joel Beckett) rode off into the sunset together (and away from police sirens they were sure were for Chrissie). As Tracy-Ann Oberman previously said Chrissie’s story would end in a happy ending, it seems she is gone for the time being.
