EastEnders star Alex Walkinshaw, who plays Ross Marshall, is the cousin of former glamour model who rose to fame in the 2000s

Alex Walkinshaw boasts an iconic spouse in EastEnders and celebrated relatives beyond the BBC soap.

 

Last year, soap enthusiasts were delighted to witness Vicki Fowler (Alice Haig) making her comeback to Walford after a 21-year hiatus, and she didn’t arrive solo.

 

Vicki brought along her new partner, Ross Marshall (portrayed by Alex Walkinshaw), and his son, Joel (Max Murray), as the threesome swiftly settled into life in Albert Square.

 

In May, Vicki and Ross arranged to tie the knot, though their momentous occasion was marred by the bride’s admission of an affair with Zack Hudson (James Farrar).

Despite the complication, the couple proceeded with their vows, making Ross officially part of the Watts/Fowler dynasty.

Beyond his role as newlywed Ross on EastEnders, Alex gained recognition for his portrayal of the commanding PC (later Inspector) Dale ‘Smithy’ Smith on ITV’s The Bill.

He remained a cornerstone of the police series from its launch in 1999 through to the programme’s conclusion in 2010.

The 51-year-old has additionally appeared on screens as sports teacher Jez Diamond in Waterloo Road and familiarised viewers with nurse Adrian ‘Fletch’ Fletcher throughout the respected BBC medical series Casualty and Holby City.

 

Throughout the 90s, Alex also featured in some of the era’s most beloved shows, including Harry Enfield and Chums, A Touch of Frost, and London’s Burning.

Soap actor Alex isn’t the sole celebrity within his family, as his cousin is Jodie Marsh.

Former glamour model Jodie, 47, was once amongst the most recognisable faces in Britain during the peak of her celebrity in the 2000s. She was equally famous for her bitter rivalry with fellow model Katie Price.

Jodie is certainly familiar with television, having appeared in numerous reality programmes, particularly Celebrity Big Brother.

She’s also an accomplished writer, with her memoir, Keeping It Real, published in 2005 and climbing into the top 10 on Amazon’s bestseller charts.

 

In recent times, though, Jodie chose a quieter existence, abandoning the entertainment world to operate an animal sanctuary in Essex.

The model and television personality once indulged in nostalgia, posting a charming throwback photograph with Alex. She wistfully wrote on the Instagram upload: “Found this at my mum’s – it’s me pre-nose job with my gorgeous cousin Alex Walkinshaw, who’s currently in Holby and has also been in the Bill #Smithy and Waterloo Road. He’s a talented beast. We were so young here. What happened? Haha XXXX”.

Family life

Alex discovered romance with his former partner, Sarah Trusler, while filming The Bill, where she was employed as a makeup artist.

Sarah’s remarkable CV features major blockbusters and prestigious television dramas including Pirates of the Caribbean, London Has Fallen, and Wolf Hall. The couple tied the knot in June 2009 at the Queen’s House in Greenwich, South London, but are said to have split in 2018.

Their nuptials featured an A Midsummer Night’s Dream theme with hundreds of attendees, including Claire Goose, Gary Lucy, and Louise Lytton.

Alex’s current EastEnders colleague Scott Maslen, who portrays Jack Branning, served as best man at the ceremony. The two soap actors had previously worked together on The Bill.
