Dᴇᴀᴛʜ in Paradise star Ardal O’Hanlon is set to lead “Ireland’s first cynical Christmas comedy”, starring opposite two actors from the extended Game of Thrones universe, Michelle Fairley and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms‘ Peter Claffey.

Directed by Dallan Shovlin, who was a second assistant director on Kneecap, the upcoming You’ll Never Believe Who’s Dead centres on an Irish family reuniting for Christmas. After discussing a local robbery, the protagonists argue they could do a better job, and put their theory to the test.

Cast for the film is rounded out by The Celebrity Traitors star Ruth Codd, Jacob McCarthy, Simone Kirby and Stephen Rea.

You’ll Never Believe Who’s Dead is Ireland’s first cynical Christmas comedy film,” said Shovlin (via Screen International).

“I was drawn to aspects of how we show up for each other at Christmas. The way in which families communicate their needs, or don’t, at this most vulnerable time of year.”

“The key to a good comedy is that no one realises they’re in one, and that became our north star. I’m incredibly proud of the cast and crew who trusted this story and worked so hard to bring it to life,” she added.

You’ll Never Believe Who’s Dead has wrapped filming in Ireland and is currently in post-production, meaning it shouldn’t be too long before it hits our cinema screens, with a festive release sounding likely.

Premiered at Sundance Film Festival, the dramedy also features Michael Fassbender, Josie Walker, Fionnuala Flaherty, Jessica Reynolds, Adam Best, and Simone Kirby, with the latter also starring on You’ll Never Believe Who’s Dead.
