EXCLUSIVE: Dᴇᴀᴛʜ in Paradise's Christmas special will see the return of a familiar face - and fans will be thrilled.
Dᴇᴀᴛʜ in Paradise detective Don Gilet, who plays Mervin Wilson in the BBC series, has teased the return of a familiar face in the upcoming Christmas special. In an exclusive interview with Reach PLC and other press, Don teased what fans can expect from the festive instalment, which airs on Sunday night.
While not giving too much away, Don said fans can expect to see a familiar face return – and some fans think they have worked out who it is already.
He shared, “It’s a very interesting thing to think about that one of the characters, who is the beating heart of this whole thing that has been there from the beginning, the thought that, from a character perspective, they may not be there anymore, and what hole that leaves.
“Because I suppose, in terms of family, they are the closest thing, and then to think, Mervin is back to feeling like an orphan again, just when he’s starting to embrace what Saint Marie has to offer.”
When discussing the UK crossover in the festive episode, Don added, “I think it’s great to see what the UK looks like at the very same time as Mervin is solving crimes in the beautiful sunshine.”

The actor’s admission comes after Don Warrington, who plays Commissioner Selwyn Pattison in Dᴇᴀᴛʜ in Paradise, made a surprise appearance in Beyond Paradise’s Christmas special, which aired last weekend. Selwyn reunited with Humphrey Goodman (Kris Marshall) and Martha Lloyd (Sally Bretton) as the couple finally got married.
At the end of the episode, Selwyn also took a phone call from Mervin to ask for his help, leading fans to believe that the Commissioner will also appear in tomorrow night’s festive episode.
Taking to a Facebook fan page to share their theories, one fan said, “What a surprise ending and lead into DIP Christmas special.”
Another agreed, “Should be interesting, looking forward to it.”
While a third added, “Loved the crossover with Selwyn involved.”
Someone else went on, “Intriguing about the Commissioner’s phone message, and hopefully we will find out in the DIP Christmas special.”

The synopsis for the festive instalment teases, “The office Christmas party of a lifetime takes a dark turn when four co-workers wake up to find a stranger dead in the pool of their Caribbean villa.
“DI Mervin Wilson and the team identify the murder weapon, but they’re left baffled when they find that it was locked in a drawer when the murder took place… thousands of miles away from the crime scene, in Swindon!
“Stuck in Saint Marie, the team calls on the help of a familiar face to crack the case. Meanwhile, Mervin’s anxiously waiting to hear back from his newly discovered brother, which prevents him from embracing Saint Marie’s Christmas celebrations. Can Mervin resolve his family situation and get into the festive spirit – for the sake of his team and the island?”
