Beyond Paradise fans believe that Detective Humphrey Goodman will be the one to leave Shipton Abbott police force.

During tonight’s episode, Humphrey Goodman (played by Kris Marshall) and his colleagues were tasked with solving their latest crime, although the detective had other things on his mind.

Humphrey has been told by his new boss that he has to let one of his colleagues go, but he has yet to break the news to them.

At the end of tonight’s instalment, fans saw a teaser for next week’s episode, which showed Humphrey standing in front of his colleagues, being pushed to make a decision.

Fans now think they have worked out who Humphrey will choose in a heartbreaking twist – and it’s him. Some fans have also pleaded with the show to get rid of the detective’s “nemesis”, James Smith (played by Vincent Franklin).

When speaking about Humphrey’s heartbreaking decision, Kris Marshall exclusively told Express.co.uk that the detective doesn’t like facing any kind of responsibility.

“He hates any kind of authority, he hates rules, he hates being told what he has to do, and so it’s thrust upon him, and it literally comes knocking on his door as it does. You know, he really detests that, really dislikes it, and he doesn’t like the pressure,” the actor shared.

“And also, he loves his team. He feels like losing one of them would be like losing an appendage, or a part of him, you know.

“He doesn’t feel like he’s the boss. He feels that they all bring a sort of an equal amount to the Melange, you know, to the Jamboree, and so I think he’s thrust into this, as I said about him, living on a boat, he’s quite happy living on a boat.

“It’s not that he doesn’t think about Martha, it’s just not on his radar. He’s this slightly neurodiverse kind of guy, and so these things are thrust upon him, and he doesn’t necessarily deal with it very well.”

Beyond Paradise is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
