Beyond Paradise is set to grace our television screens once more with its eagerly awaited fourth series, and the BBC has just released a sneak-peek trailer showcasing what lies ahead for DI Humphrey Goodman and his colleagues this time round.

The well-loved BBC show debuted in 2023 as a spin-off from the enduring crime drama D.e.a.t.h in Paradise. It follows Humphrey’s story after leaving Saint Marie, as he settles down and works in the seaside town of Shipton Abbott.

The trailer begins with a voiceover declaring: “Detective Goodman is back and when it comes to crime, he never slips up.” However, this swiftly cuts to the hapless DI losing his footing and taking a tumble whilst aboard a boat.

Speaking to someone off-camera, Humphrey announces: “I need two pencils and a pair of underpants.”

Things soon shift to a more sombre tone, as it’s revealed there will be staff cuts and Humphrey must decide which member of his team to dismiss, reports the Express.

After several quick glimpses of the upcoming investigations – including what appears to be a murder echoing events from a novel – the trailer concludes with one final revelation.

Humphrey and his wife Martha (Sally Bretton), who have previously resided on a houseboat, have made the major decision to buy a house.

Enthusiasts of the BBC drama won’t have to wait much longer for Series 4, as it’s due to launch on Friday 27 March.

The storyline for the forthcoming series states: “Fact and folklore blur as they investigate the d.e.a.t.h of a novelist who predicted their demise, a magical night of Dark Morris that soon turns sour, a stolen treasure map that suddenly reappears, and the alleged sighting of a vengeful mermaid lurking out at sea.”

The description adds: “DI Humphrey Goodman (Kris Marshall) and Martha (Sally Bretton) embark on married life as they hunt for a new home, whilst Humphrey grapples with a difficult decision that could alter the lives of everyone at the station forever.”

It was recently disclosed that numerous guest stars will be appearing in Shipton Abbott during the new episodes. Familiar faces making a comeback include Eva Feiler as Lucy Thompson and Phil Daniels as Marvelous Harris.

Meanwhile, several newcomers will also feature in the BBC programme, notably Gavin and Stacey star Melanie Walters. The 64 year old Welsh performer portrayed Stacey’s mum Gwen throughout the beloved BBC comedy series.

Additional new guest performers include Susan George, Colin McFarlane, Michael Cochrane and Vincent Franklin. They’ll be accompanied by Alex Macqueen, Tristan Sturrock, Andrea Lowe, Rachel Cassidy, Emily Stott, Rina Mahoney, Susan Penhaligon, James Clay, Kenneth Collard and Narinda Samra.

Beyond Paradise season 4 is set to air on BBC One and iPlayer on Friday 27 March at 8pm.
