BBC Dᴇᴀᴛʜ In Paradise Don Gilet’s exit ‘confirmed’ as detective in grave danger
Dᴇᴀᴛʜ In Paradise's Mervin Wilson is seen in a precarious position tonight on the BBC detective drama as a first look at next week confirms there's trouble ahead
Dᴇᴀᴛʜ In Paradise’s Mervin Wilson is in grave danger next week on the BBC detective drama. The detective inspector was last seen deciding to head to Antigua to see his brother Solomon at the end of the episode.
In a shocking turn of events tonight, the BBC show teased a preview for the next episode. A panicked DS Naomi Thomas rushes to meet with the Commissioner and her fellow officers, who are busy cleaning the graffitied sign of the officers.
“Sir, I think something has happened to the Inspector,” she tells him as Mervin is showing having been tied to a chair and struggling to free himself – but what has happened and will he be ok?
A worrying ‘to be continued’ flashes on the screen – but is this it for the Inspector?
Mervin had planned to initially leave the island but after finding his half brother, he had decided to stick around and build their bond – but things didn’t get off to an easy start for the pair.
Speaking about his character’s relationship with Solomon, he said: “It was a great emotional cliffhanger because at any moment in that series Mervin could have just said ‘that’s it, I’ve done my time’, and now he literally can’t go.
“The one thing he was in pursuit of at the start of this series was family and then to throw that in at the end, that he’s not alone… He’s powerless to resist that and he has to stay now for the next chapter in his family quest, because he thought he had no family. So how can he turn his back on that?”
He added: “Well, I think phrases like ‘two peas in a pod’, do not apply… They couldn’t be more opposite. There’s Mervin and then there’s this guy who is on the opposite side of the tracks, potentially the opposite side of the law too…
“There’s just something that Mervin can’t quite put his finger on. He’s having to accept that whatever his notions were about what Solomon could be like, it might not be like that. Daniel Ward plays the character brilliantly.”
