Emmerdale has brought in a Death in Paradise star for a dramatic Charity Dingle storyline. Charity (Emma Atkins) has endured a turbulent period on the ITV soap of late.

Earlier this year, she fell victim to a horrific sexual assault by the villainous Dr Caitlin Todd (Caroline Harker), who subsequently blackmailed her regarding the true parentage of Leyla Sugden.

The menacing doctor left the village to pursue a new post in Sheffield, while Charity continued to grapple with the aftermath of the attack. This week, however, Dr Todd met her end accidentally at the hands of Charity’s granddaughter Sarah (Katie Hill) during a confrontation with Charity.

Though Charity and Sarah enlisted mysterious newcomer Serena Sugden (Casey Al-Shaqsy) to devise a plan for approaching the police, Tuesday’s (August 11) episode saw fresh character DS Ramsden arrive to commence the investigation.

DS Ramsden is portrayed by Chelsea Edge, who gained recognition for her part in the BBC’s Death in Paradise. She took on the role of Sophie Chambers, the girlfriend of DI Neville Parker (Ralf Little) in the series, reports the Express.

Her stint on the enduring detective programme saw Sophie arrive as a backpacker before swiftly embarking on a relationship with DI Neville. The storyline subsequently took a dramatic twist.

Sophie proceeded to implicate Neville in the death of criminologist David Cartwright (Patrick Kennedy). Chelsea featured in the show for seven episodes between 2022 and 2023.

Regarding her appearance in Emmerdale, Chelsea’s character DS Ramsden remains unconvinced that Charity and Sarah are being entirely truthful, and is resolute in her determination to uncover what really happened.

Chelsea’s previous television work includes the Sky comedy Brassic alongside Michelle Keegan, 2020’s I Hate Suzie, and last year’s BBC drama Reunion.

Meanwhile, discussing her Death in Paradise character previously, Sophie explained: “When you go on holiday you have a little crush and you know it’s not going to last forever.

“But I think she has such a soft spot for him and coming away from it – she’s trying to be a realist – coming back, she’s like, ‘How have I left this incredible island and this guy I really like.’ She doesn’t want to let it go.”

Emmerdale airs Monday to Friday at 8:00pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
