Graham Foster’s strained father-son relationship with Joe Tate appears to be deteriorating further, and Emmerdale fans believe they’ve worked out the reason behind it. Following his enigmatic return to the Dales last month after a six-year hiatus, Graham (Andrew Scarborough) has been trying to repair bridges with several residents after staging his own d.e.a.t.h. Whilst the community has recovered from the initial shock of discovering Graham is alive, his homecoming has been far from smooth after being rebuffed by ex-partner Rhona Goskirk (Zoe Henry), who is contentedly wed to Marlon Dingle (Mark Charnock).

At the same time, Joe Tate (Ned Porteous) has sought to rebuild ties with the man he previously considered a father figure, though he’s already exposed him for a significant falsehood. In Tuesday’s instalment of the ITV soap (February 24), Joe’s scheme to acquire Butlers Farm progressed, but Kim Tate (Claire King) quickly revealed she’d witnessed Graham speaking with Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) at the local pub. She subsequently pushed Joe to put Graham’s allegiance to the test, reports the Daily Star.

Joe tasked Graham with cataloguing all assets at Butlers Farm, intending to sell them at auction. Given Cain’s current financial difficulties, Joe calculated he would be left with little option but to sell up.

Graham made his way to the farm to confront Cain, although he and his workforce were preoccupied with an ongoing issue concerning their sheep. Cain stated he lacked the time for conversation, but Graham insisted he needed to listen to what he had to say.

Later, whilst Cain spoke with his brother Sam Dingle (James Hooton), it emerged that Graham had tipped Cain off about Joe’s underhanded scheme. Cain declared they would “play him at his own game”, emphasising that the priority was keeping Joe at bay.

Graham headed back to Home Farm and told Joe and Kim that the farm’s inventory was worth little, though Joe was already fully aware of their assets. As he wondered why Graham was throwing him “under the bus”, Kim interjected that he was “driving the bus”.

Joe later challenged Graham and presented evidence proving Graham had lied about his visit to Butlers. He then stated that he “should have stayed d.e.a.d,” and Kim agreed.

Yet both Kim and Joe remain oblivious to the fact that Graham seems to be backing Cain following news of his cancer diagnosis, and Moira Dingle’s (Natalie J Robb) ongoing incarceration.

Whilst Graham attempts to dissuade Joe from pursuing his determined plan to seize Cain and Moira’s farm, certain Emmerdale viewers are speculating that Graham is working undercover for the police and will ultimately expose Joe.

Taking to Facebook, one soap enthusiast proposed: “Graham is soooo not on Joe’s side at all – he’s undercover for the police, isn’t he?”.

A second responded: “It’s looking that way”, whilst a third added: “I really hope so x.”

“I hope he brings them both down and helps Cain and Moira”, urged one viewer as another explained: “That would make more sense than the ridiculous story he’s telling about how he faked his d.e.a.t.h.”

However, one viewer believes Graham holds a far more senior position than a police officer, and added: “I think Graham’s higher than a police officer, possibly CI5 or similar.”
