Fans of Emmerdale believe they’ve uncovered a major Dawn Fletcher betrayal, after spotting a huge clue.

ITV soap fans will know that Dawn (portrayed by Olivia Bromley) has been romantically involved with Joe Tate (Ned Porteous) since early last year, when they started an affair behind the back of Dawn’s husband, Billy (Jay Kontzle).

The pair, who are now engaged, hit a stumbling block when Dawn discovered that Joe had recorded Victoria Sugden (Isabel Hodgins) murdering her wicked brother, John (Oliver Farnworth), shortly after the Corriedale crash.

Joe leveraged the footage to coerce Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley) into planting illicit documents at Butler’s Farm, leading to Moira Dingle’s (Natalie J Robb) wrongful imprisonment.

Upon finding out that Joe was behind Moira’s jail term, Dawn began scheming to bring her fiancé down, enlisting the help of Moira and her spouse, Cain (Jeff Hordley).

Dawn has already pocketed a hefty sum from Joe after she lied about wanting to purchase Belle’s (Eden Taylor-Draper) stake in Take A Vow, but her plot might be ruined before it truly begins, reports the Express.

Reality dawned on Dawn on Tuesday (May 19), as she confessed to a stunned Moira that she can’t bear to leave Joe.

Moira challenged Dawn’s decision, but Dawn stood firm, resolved to win on her own terms. Later, as Dawn headed upstairs to help Clemmie Reed (Mabel Addison) with her homework, it was revealed that Joe and Graham Foster (Andrew Scarborough) already knew about Dawn’s betrayal.

“I’m waiting for my moment,” Joe said, with Graham adding, “Don’t wait too long. We can’t let this go on any further. We need to deal with Dawn, [and] put a stop to her and Moira’s little game for good.”

During Wednesday’s (May 20) episode, now streaming on ITVX, Graham pressed Joe to take action against Dawn, with Joe reassuring him everything was under control. Graham then headed back to Home Farm to discover Dawn lying unconscious at the foot of the stairs.

After spotting Joe positioned at the top of the staircase, Graham blamed him for pushing her, before medics revealed that Dawn had actually collapsed due to low iron levels.

Upon returning from the hospital, Dawn told Joe, “I’ve got to tell you something.” It appeared Dawn was about to come clean, but instead, she tearfully professed her love for Joe before the duo shared a passionate kiss.

Soap fans believe that Sam Dingle betrayed Dawn(Image: ITV)

It remains unclear exactly how Joe and Graham discovered Dawn’s scheme, but some Emmerdale fans reckon that one villager might have told them.

Several sharp-eyed viewers have spotted Sam Dingle (James Hooton) appearing downcast in recent episodes, with many theorising that he could have witnessed Dawn’s comings and goings at the Wishing Well cottage, and decided to keep his employer, Joe, informed.

“How the hell has Joe found out what Dawn is up to?” one person asked on a Facebook fan page. Another responded: “I think Sam overheard Dawn and Moira discussing it. He was already [annoyed] with his family earlier in the episode. I reckon he told Joe what Dawn and Moira were up to.”

A third chimed in: “Maybe Sam said something to Joe,” with another adding: “Oh good shout. Sam has been acting super out of character this week.”
