Tyler Perry’s Sistas | Season 9 Started Off Promising But Then It Turned Into A Disjointed Mess

Sistas Season 9 (Mid-Season Thoughts)

You know what, folks? We’re getting close to the mid-season finale of Sistas season 9, and I figure now’s the time to sit back and talk about the season as a whole. Usually, I wait until after the mid-season wraps up to do an overview, but honestly? I think we all kind of know where this story is headed.

The Good Start

I’ll give credit where it’s due: the first few episodes had me hyped. The writing felt sharper, the acting was strong, the comedy actually landed. I thought, “Dang, the writers are cooking—Tyler must’ve stepped back in the room to help steer the ship.” For the first time in a while, Sistas felt like it was moving forward, not spinning its wheels.

The Downhill Slide

But around episode six or seven? That’s when things started to fall apart. Characters started reverting back to their worst, most toxic versions—almost like we time-traveled back to season two. The storylines became messy, forced, and disjointed.

It reminds me of The Oval season 6—started off promising, but by the mid-season finale, it was a dud. That’s my fear for Sistas season 9: the back half will just be more of the same recycled drama.

Forced Drama Everywhere

Let’s talk specifics:

  • Andy & Dr. Vaughn — Why force a romance when the stronger story would’ve been them teaming up to expose Dr. Cruz? After everything Andy just went through last season, a new love interest feels rushed and unbelievable.

  • Andy vs. Fatima — Why make Andy antagonistic toward the fan-favorite? It only makes fans hate her character more.

  • Fatima & Zach — I liked seeing Fatima support Zach, but her smothering him feels out of character. And Zach sliding back into “manchild” mode is just lazy writing.

  • Danny & Tony — A complete mess. Danny’s character deserved better.

  • Sabrina & Maurice/Rich — Dragged out way too long.

All this tension and “romance” feels forced, like square pegs in round holes.

The Writing Problem

Here’s the thing: it’s not just the new writers. Even when Tyler was the only one writing, character inconsistency was an issue. But season 9 feels extra scattered, probably because different writers are handling different episodes. The result? Characters change from one week to the next with zero continuity.

Why Fans Are Frustrated

I’ve noticed a lot of viewers saying, “Jeremy, I don’t even watch the show anymore—I just watch your reviews.” And while I appreciate that, it’s sad. Sistas used to be must-watch TV. Now? It’s a show that occasionally delivers laughs (like Hayden finding out about Fatima’s pregnancy), but mostly feels like wasted potential.

Final Thoughts

At this point, I’m not sure Sistas should continue past season 10. I started season 9 hopeful, thinking it was a course correction. Now, I’m not so sure. Maybe the hiatus will give the writers time to reset, but if not, we’re in for more of the same.

Still, I’ll be here reviewing it with y’all—because even when the show’s messy, the conversations we have about it are worth it.
