Tyler Perry’s Sistas | Season 9 Episode 4 Review: One Is The Loneliest Number

Alright, Sistas fans — hope everyone’s doing well. We’re diving into Season 9, Episode 4, One Is The Loneliest Number.
To my surprise, I enjoyed this episode more than I expected.

Last week’s trailer and the BET.com preview had me ready for nonsense — especially with the Sabrina storyline. That part still dragged the episode down, but overall, it wasn’t as bad as I feared. I’d give it a 7/10 — not great, but solidly between “decent” and “very good.”

Comedy Done Right

The humor hit well this week.

The comedy was sprinkled in lightly, without undermining the emotional tone — something the show has been balancing better this season.

The Timeline Problem

One issue: dialogue between Hayden and Andy confirmed that a few days have passed between Episodes 3 and 4.
That means:

  • Aaron and Andy already know about Zach and Fatima’s baby offscreen.

  • Yet Pam, who was ride or die for Karen’s pregnancy, didn’t know that one baby was lost.

This didn’t sit right with me. Pam was loyal and worked hard to set up the apartment for the twins. Leaving her in the dark for days made her look clueless, and it was messy writing.

Karen’s Grief

Karen’s scenes were heavy.
She’s in bed, withdrawn, refusing to eat, walk, or breastfeed. Her mom, Miss Lisa, tries to encourage her, but Karen lashes out — revealing she’d rather sleep than face her pain.

The writing captures postpartum depression and grief well. Still, Miss Lisa is right: Karen has a surviving daughter who needs her. At some point, someone’s going to have a tougher, more direct conversation with her.

The Blessing She Can’t See

This may sound harsh, but Karen is blessed in ways she doesn’t yet realize:

  • Two fathers willing to care for their children.

  • A strong support system (her mom, Pam, her friends).

Many women face motherhood alone without this kind of help. Hopefully, she comes to appreciate that in time.

The Sabrina & Rich Distraction

The weakest part of the episode.
Sabrina confronts Rich about sleeping with Penelope, accuses her of trying to hurt Andy, and turns the office into a soap opera. Meanwhile, Maurice and Paige eavesdrop.

Frankly, this storyline feels like filler. Sabrina’s arc would be stronger if it explored her fears about pregnancy after Karen’s loss — not petty relationship drama.

Zach & Aaron: An Unexpected Bond

The best scene? Aaron visiting Zach with donuts.

  • Aaron offers baby items originally meant for Karen’s twins, knowing Zach and Fatima are expecting.

  • Zach gets emotional, but Aaron reassures him: “Whenever you need something — basketball, gym, whatever — I’m here.”

It’s refreshing to see Aaron and Zach connect without hostility. Zach rarely gets male support on this show, so this was a standout moment.

Danny’s Airport Surprise

At the airport, Danny flirts and bickers with Leonard and Tony.
The shocker? Tony quits his job — apparently inspired by Danny’s advice. Her reaction says it all: uh-oh.

Law Firm Drama

Andy’s back at work, and Hayden offers a suspiciously sincere “glad you’re okay.” She flexes her partner status, shutting him down, but also confirms she and Gary are no longer engaged.

Later, Fatima visits Andy, and they talk about:

  • Zach’s quiet grief.

  • Andy’s trauma from the Hudson/Jasmine shooting.

Finally, Andy gets a call from Dr. Vaughn, revealing that Dr. Cruz’s cold treatment of patients is a known problem — one the hospital chooses to ignore.

Final Thoughts

This episode balanced emotional weight and humor better than most recent seasons.

  • Strengths: Karen’s grief arc, Zach and Aaron’s conversation, Miss Lisa’s tough love, and consistent humor.

  • Weaknesses: Timeline gaps, Pam being left uninformed, and the Sabrina/Rich drama.

Overall, One Is The Loneliest Number pushed the season forward without being too heavy — and gave us a few moments worth rewatching.
