Tyler Perry’s Sistas | Season 9 Episode 20 Review: Bon Voyage

⭐ Sistas Season 9, Episode 20 — “Bon Voyage” Review
Rating: 7/10 — and here’s why…
Alright, Sistas fans — hope everybody’s doing well.
This is my episode review for Season 9, Episode 20: “Bon Voyage.”
And honestly?
Reviewing this episode a few days after it airs gives me far more clarity than when I’m watching it live — because man… the comment section on my trailer breakdown was a battlefield.
Apparently, no matter what I say, some folks think I “can’t win for losing.”
But hey — I at least try to get my trailer breakdowns out immediately when BET drops them, and those usually require no rewatches and no extra thinking.
This episode?
It sits in that weird space between:
-
Episode 19 — one of the BEST episodes of the entire series
and -
the start of the three-episode drunk-chaos finale arc
So let’s get into it.
🥂 The Tone Shift: From Peak Drama to… Breast Milk?
Episode 19 was a masterpiece.
Peak tension. Peak emotion. Peak writing.
Episode 20?
Girls’ night. Drinks. Bad decisions loading. Andy’s annual “men are trash” rant.
A whole lot of:
-
questionable choices
-
questionable behavior
-
and literal breast milk jokes
I get what some fans said:
“Jeremy, with all the forced tension this season, it’s nice to have a feel-good episode.”
And hey — you’re not wrong.
But personally?
I don’t drink. I don’t party. I don’t blackout and call it “fun.”
So maybe I’m just the stick-in-the-mud viewer here.
💇♀️ Pam & Maurice vs. Danny’s Depression
Pam is doing Danny’s hair, hyping her up, using Roots to Riches on her (product placement level: elite).
Danny does NOT want to go out — understandably, since she lost her job.
Pam calls Maurice, they double-team the encouragement, and honestly:
✔️ It is good to have people drag you out of your funk
✔️ Sometimes you really do need to shake it off and breathe
✔️ Danny needs this night out more than anyone
No complaints here.
👶 Karen vs. Aaron: The Hypocrisy Olympics
Karen walks into the room and sees Aaron packing.
He dropped a bomb: they’re leaving TOMORROW, not in a week.
Then Karen gives him a lecture about making decisions “as a unit.”
And I’m sitting there like…
Karen… weren’t YOU the one who:
-
decided to leave Atlanta without telling him,
-
moved out with the baby,
-
decided you needed a “hard reset”…
…all by yourself?
Fans: “That was before they were engaged!”
Me: They share a child. That ALONE means communication is mandatory.
Her point wasn’t completely wrong — just weird coming from HER.
But anyway, she agrees:
This is officially their last night out.
👵 Andy’s Mom: The Most Heartfelt Scene of the Episode
I’ll say it — this was the only scene I liked Andy in this week.
Andy’s mom comes in, starts talking about babies, marriage, happiness — then suddenly gets faint.
The symptoms strongly hint at:
-
possible early Alzheimer’s
-
vertigo
-
light stroke warning signs
Andy wants to stay home.
Mom refuses: “Your aunt is coming. You go out.”
A very emotional, very human moment.
More of THIS Andy, please.
💅 Sabrina’s Fake Tough-Girl Routine
Over at Maurice’s place, Sabrina walks in looking good…
and immediately starts acting like she’s hardcore to intimidate Dylan.
Girl.
We REMEMBER your demeanor in jail.
You are not about that life.
The comedy landed, but Sabrina playing “gangster auntie” was hilarious for the wrong reasons.
🤰 Fatima & Zac: Baby Bump Confirmed
Nice little scene of domestic prep:
-
Fatima’s pregnant belly OBVIOUS
-
She’s planning a big backyard cookout
-
Zac’s going out with Keys and Rich
-
Fatima’s joining the girls
Cookout foreshadowing?
Possibly. But with the upcoming chaos, I’m not holding my breath.
🤦♀️ The Sabrina–Fatima Line That Should’ve Been Deleted
Sabrina tells Maurice:
“I’m really starting to like Fatima. She’s starting to feel like one of the girls.”
NO.
Just NO.
Fatima literally saved your life.
But Sabrina has never shown any real dislike toward her in the first place.
So this “NOW I like her” line?
It makes Sabrina look ungrateful, shallow, and late to the party.
Fans hated this line, and so did I.
📸 The Photo Shoot — and the Official “Passing of the Torch”
The girls take photos together — really sweet nostalgia moment.
Then Karen invites Fatima into the picture.
A symbolic moment that MANY fans saw as:
✨ Karen stepping aside
✨ Fatima becoming the new core sister
Season 10 preview, anyone?
🥃 The Bar Scenes — Comedy Gold & Danny’s Money Scare
At Billy Jakes:
-
Drunk shenanigans
-
Pam & Maurice plotting their salon future
-
An old man loses his TEETH and Sabrina calls it “love at first bite”
-
Maurice is killing the comedy this season
Danny panics — her debit card declines.
We think Tony stole her settlement money.
Great misdirection.
Turns out Sabrina moved ALL of Danny’s cash to savings.
(1) Danny has no overdraft protection
(2) Who moves ALL their money out of checking?!
(3) Why is Sabrina in charge of anyone’s money??
But anyway…
😡 Andy vs. Dr. Bon — This Scene Annoyed Me
Bon is outside waiting.
Andy:
-
calls him a stalker
-
accuses him of lying
-
refuses to listen
-
storms off
When HE tries to explain the pressure Cruz put on him, she shuts him down.
Look — I’m not excusing Bon’s actions.
But Andy is pretending he’s fully evil when:
-
he HELPED save Karen
-
he was likely powerless against Cruz
-
he’s drowning in student loans
-
he could lose his career for speaking up
Good people can be stuck in bad systems.
Andy refuses nuance, as usual.
Then he grabs her arm — cliffhanger moment.
🍼 Breast Milk Trauma & Fatima’s Advice
Fatima, traumatized by Karen’s “breast milk situation,” still sits Danny down:
“If Andy and I can make peace… so can you.”
Sweet message.
Bad analogy.
Still funny.
💈 Karen Gives the Salon Away
Danny, Maurice, and Pam pitch their salon–spa–hookah lounge idea.
Karen:
“I’ll give y’all the salon.”
Now… is it free-free?
Or “free with 10% ownership”?
We’ll see.
But it was a good moment between them.
💥 Final Scene: The DRAMA Arrives
Andy storms back into the bathroom chanting:
“Men are liars! Jordan is a liar! All men are liars!”
Sabrina: “Wait, what did Jordan do?!”
Andy: “Him too!”
THEN…
Penelope steps out:
“What did you say about my brother?”
CUT. END. EPISODE.
🔥 Perfect cliffhanger.
⭐ Final Thoughts
Overall: 7/10.
Funny, chaotic, uneven — but entertaining.
-
Episode 19 was incredible
-
Episode 20 was the calm before the disastrous storm
-
Episode 21 & 22 will be messy, drunk chaos
-
Karen’s exit arc is being set up beautifully
-
Andy’s mom storyline might be the emotional anchor of the finale
And Penelope?
Oh, she’s about to EAT Andy up alive next episode.
