Two more Emmerdale legends gone in one episode after many years – and one is dead

Two more Emmerdale characters left the ITV soap in today’s episode – and one of them died.
We all know now that a number of familiar faces are leaving the show this year. We will say goodbye to Dawn Taylor (Olivia Bromley), Jimmy King (Nick Miles), Vinny Dingle (Bradley Johnson) and Doctor Caitlin Todd (Caroline Harker) in the coming months.
Before these exits unfold, however, it was someone else’s turn to say goodbye.
Noah Dingle (Jack Downham) recently made the decision that he wanted to apply for a job abroad. He was feeling tired of his life in the village, and wanted to create new memories for himself elsewhere.
When Noah told Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) about his move, her reaction led him to conclude that he wasn’t going to leave.
Charity knew what would happen to her relationship with Noah if he stayed in the Dales just for her. In today’s episode, she sat down with her son and said that it was time for him to leave.
As Noah got his head around the fact he really was going, up the road, a number of his Dingle relatives were dealing with a heartbreaking loss.
Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) had taken Monty the dog to the vets after the family decided it was time to put the poorly pup to sleep.
Lydia Dingle (Karen Blick), Sam (James Hooton), Belle (Eden Taylor-Draper) and Kammy Hadiq (Shebz Miah) were all at Wishing Well, having made the agreement it was better to stay and support Kyle and Isaac (Huey Quinn and Bobby Dunsmuir), which meant Cain was the only one with Monty as Rhona Goskirk (Zoe Henry) administered the medication.
The scenes with Cain and Rhona were absolutely devastating. Cain spoke to Monty about what a good boy he’s been, and told him to ask dad Zak Dingle (Steve Halliwell) to take him for lots of walks when he makes it to heaven.
Kyle and Isaac made their way to the vets after telling Belle that they didn’t want Cain to be on his own with Monty. The Dingle tradition when one of their own dies is to bury them on the family land.
As Cain carried Monty into the car, Lydia, Sam and Kammy quietly gathered around him, united in their grief and determined to make sure he didn’t face the heartbreaking moment alone.
Just before he headed out of Emmerdale, Noah approached Cain to say one final goodbye.
The loss of Monty may seem small to some, but for the Dingles, he was family.
Surrounded by those who love him, Cain was reminded that while one chapter was coming to a painful end, another was only just beginning for Noah.
