🕊️ TRAGEDY: Australia Mourns Trish Crossin – A Tireless Fighter for Justice Has Passed Away

Australia is in deep mourning following the passing of Trish Crossin, aged 70 – a woman whose life was defined by courage, compassion, and an unbreakable commitment to fairness and equality. Her death marks the end of an era, leaving behind a legacy that will continue to shape communities for generations.

Born in Melbourne, Trish chose a path far from comfort early in life. In her early twenties, she moved to the remote regions of Arnhem Land, where she worked as a teacher. It was there, in one of Australia’s most isolated areas, that her lifelong mission began: to stand up for those whose voices were too often unheard.

In 1998, she made history as the first female federal politician from the Northern Territory when she was elected to the Australian Senate. Over 15 years in office, she became a powerful advocate for Territorians, fighting relentlessly for education, healthcare, and the rights of First Nations communities and regional Australians.

But Trish Crossin was never just a politician – she was a force for change. She helped establish working women’s centres, supported the NT AIDS and Hepatitis Council, and dedicated herself to improving the lives of others. Her passion for social justice and equality was not just political – it was deeply personal.

Even after leaving Parliament in 2013, she never stopped. From her home in Darwin, she continued to support local organisations, school councils, and community initiatives such as Asthma NT, Autism NT, and Netball NT. Her work never slowed, because her belief in people never faded.

Her daughter Amanda captured her spirit perfectly:
“She was Labor through and through – passionate about fairness, equality and inclusion – but more than anything, she cared deeply about people.”

Today, Australia remembers not just a leader, but a woman who truly made a difference. A woman who listened, who fought, and who never gave up on the idea of a better, fairer society.

She is survived by her husband Mark, her four children Paul, Melinda, Amanda and Kate, her grandchildren, and countless friends and colleagues across the nation.

Trish Crossin may be gone, but her legacy will live on – in every life she touched, and every barrier she helped break.
