When Graham Foster (Andrew Scarborough) signed Kyle Winchester (Huey Quinn) up for the cadets in Emmerdale, he did so because he wanted the youngster to find a positive way to manage his emotions.

The character became the first person to discover Kyle had been setting fire to barns on Emmerdale Farm. The lad told Graham that he hated Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley) and Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller) for taking over his old home, and was also struggling to deal with his dad’s cancer diagnosis.

Graham understood that Kyle was only developing a penchant for all things fire because he didn’t know how else to deal with the thoughts and feelingshe was experiencing. He decided to try and help, which featured signing Kyle up to the cadets.

Lonely soul Graham also gifted Kyle a watch that he used to wear when he was in the army.

Unfortunately, the boy isn’t quite in a position to completely change his ways. The watch has been smashed and in upcoming episodes, Kyle retreats back to his old tricks and reaches for the matches once more.

At Home Farm, Kyle rocks up, desperate for confirmation that Joe Tate (Ned Porteous) was responsible for his mum’s death. Graham arrives a few moments later, but Kyle scarpers. His concerning behaviour is spotted by Cain and Moira Dingle (Jeff Hordley and Natalie J Robb), who can’t work out why Kyle seems so shaken.

The next day, Kyle’s feelings of isolation only get worse as Cain loses his rag with his son and storms out.

A while later, Cain notices something out of the window and rushes outside. To his horror, Cain realises that Kyle has set a shed on fire – and Monty the dog is trapped inside!

Cain kicks the door down and manages to save Monty, who is rushed to the vets. When Paddy Kirk (Dominic Brunt) tells the family to prepare for the worst, Kyle’s guilt increases and Cain seriously struggles to keep his fury in check.

The next day, the Dingles receive more bad news as Paddy shares with them that Monty has cancer. Collecting the pooch from the vets, Cain takes him off on a walk to decide what to do.

He comes to realise how much he wants to help Monty, but is also aware that he won’t help himself following his own cancer development.

Cain ponders over his words – what will he do next?

And how will the latest fire from Kyle impact this father and son relationship?
