Strictly Come Dancing pro sent secret 2am texts by celebrity star of BBC show
Strictly Come Dancing professional Katya Jones was in touch with her celebrity partner Nigel Harman in the early hours of the morning, it has been revealed
Nigel Harman has disclosed he sent texts to dance partner Katya Jones at 2am whilst competing on Strictly Come Dancing.
The pair were partnered together in 2023 until Nigel was compelled to withdraw from the competition due to an injury.
Whilst he was participating in the popular BBC programme, former EastEnders and Downton Abbey actor, Nigel said his professional partner had become an honorary member of his family.
He admitted to occasionally texting Katya during the early hours when sleep escaped him.
Nigel said: “Towards the weekend, I always wake up at about two in the morning, in the middle of the dance routine… always on a Friday night”, reports the Manchester Evening News, reports Wales Online.
“And it’s (as) you know, we all wake up in the morning when we’re in our REM sleeps and… (after those) four hour-ish cycles, and it’s when that happens that I’m deep in the middle of a dance and I can’t get back to sleep for about half an hour.
“So basically, I lay there dancing through my dance a few times until my body goes, ‘Okay. You still remember it, it’s okay’. Then I go back to sleep. So that’s the thing because really all I wanted to do is sleep for all the time when I’m not dancing.”
Katya admitted that Nigel has texted her “a couple of times” seeking reassurance about their choreography, allowing him to drift back to sleep after midnight awakenings.
Nevertheless, Nigel stressed he didn’t experience anxious dreams about the judges’ scores because “that’s their business. I can’t influence that. I just dance.”
Nigel and Katya are said to have clicked instantly from their initial partnership on Strictly – which forms the “secret to their success”.
Speaking on behalf of Betfair Bingo, body language expert Darren Stanton observed: “Nigel and Katya never fail to wow the judges, showing how hard they work together.
“It’s obvious they have become so close and connected each week, and it will only develop further. They would have to do something pretty catastrophic to fall behind now. It’s guaranteed they will be in the final, and I can see them winning.”
He continued: “Their body language hasn’t seen any shifts, it’s been pretty consistent and developed each week. They mirror one another and have incredible eye contact – it suggests they are two people who have clicked instantly. That’s been the secret to their success. When they’re dancing or talking with each other, it’s obvious they know each other inside and out.”
