Soap bosses drop biggest clue yet that Coronation Street and Emmerdale crossover could be permanent amid ITV budget cuts
The Sun revealed how this historic crossover is officially in production now and will air early 2026
ITV’S FIRST first ever soap crossover could be here to stay after telly bosses moved to trademark the name Corriedale .
The Sun revealed earlier this month how production of the bumper episode of the sister soaps Emmerdale and Coronation Street had begun.
ITV chiefs have filed an application with the government’s Intellectual Property Board to ringfence the name to stop bootleggers using the title.
The legal papers for permission to use the name to market: “Entertainment; entertainment services; entertainment services in the form of television programmes, cable, satellite and Internet programmes; production and presentation of television programmes, shows, films, videos, DVDs and Optical storage discs.”
Lawyers at the department are yet to rubber-stamp the application.
Soap fans can hardly wait for the upcoming Coronation Street and Emmerdale crossover, which is now filming.
While details are under tight wraps on what’s to come in the exciting soap first, viewers have been encouraged to keep an eye out for some clues in the coming weeks and months – in fact, John Sugden (Oliver Farnworth) has already been spotted in Corrie on a poster.
Executive producer Kate Brooks said: “Filming’s been brilliant and we’ve got a brilliant director and scripts.
“The actors are loving it because it’s so different and unique from what they’ve ever done before. The mood and camaraderie is really infectious!
“I can’t help but imagine what my mum is going to be like watching this episode.
“She’ll be so beside herself because as a soap fan, the idea of sitting down with your two favourite shows with all your favourite characters in this massive, unmissable piece of tele, it’s amazing.
“”Everyone’s worked so hard on this behind the scenes. The cast have been amazing, but behind the scenes, it’s been quite a feat logistically to get everything in the right place.
“It’s a testament to how hard and how passionate all people are. Everyone’s put their hearts and souls into it.”
There’s currently no update on when it will air, but it is understood it will air in early 2026.
Meanwhile, The Sun were first to reveal the first three names who will be appearing.
Jack P. Shepherd has confirmed he is taking part.
The actor, 37, who has who has played David Platt on the show for 25 years, said: “We get to work with all the Emmerdale lot shortly, it’s exciting.
“There’s only a few of us in it and luckily I’m one of them.”
Speaking at Shocktober Fest at Tulley’s Farm on Friday night he added: “There’s no rivalry between us and them.”
And The Sun can also reveal that Jack will be joined by Cassie Plummer actress Claire Sweeney.
From Emmerdale, actor Jonny McPherson, will also star in the episode as Dr Liam Cavanagh.
The production kicked off this week with ITV soap bosses teasing the explosive consequences of the shows converging.
