EastEnders fans are convinced they’ve cracked who Max Branning will m.u.r.de.r – and she’s already living on the Square.

The BBC One drama certainly didn’t hold back during its highly anticipated flashforward episode on New Year’s Day 2026, which leapt ahead to the same date in 2027.

The episode focused on Max (Jake Wood) as he got ready for his fifth marriage to an unknown bride. But his trip down the aisle was cut short when police arrived to arrest him.

Armed officers descended on Albert Square and stormed Max’s flat to nick him for solicitation of m.u.r.d.e.r. His escape attempt was thwarted when his own daughter, Lauren Beale (Jacqueline Jossa), shopped him to the authorities.

The victim’s identity stayed under wraps as Max was hauled off to the nick for interrogation. Yet EastEnders devotees reckon Max is plotting to bump off Jasmine Fisher (Indeyarna Donaldson-Holness) following a major clue, reports OK!

During Wednesday’s visit to the Square (January 21), Max joined forces with his rival, Cindy Beale (Michelle Collins), to hatch a covert scheme targeting Jasmine.

The plot emerged after Jasmine mysteriously decided to scarper from Walford, having secretly m.u.r.d.e.r.e.d her father, Anthony Trueman (Nicholas Bailey). She also pushed her boyfriend, Oscar Branning (Pierre Counihan-Moullier), to jet off travelling with her, which left his dad, Max, absolutely livid.

Inside The Queen Vic, tensions erupted between Max and Jasmine when he threatened to reveal her escape scheme to Kat Slater (Jessie Wallace). Jasmine retaliated by fabricating a story, alleging that Max had attempted to kiss her, which left Kat stunned.

Oscar departed the pub in anger, whilst Max proclaimed his innocence to his son and pursued him home, where Lauren and Cindy were briefed on the drama.

An individual dressed in a dark jacket and light-colored shirt appears to be engaged in a conversation with another person, who has curly hair and is wearing a white garment, set against a backdrop of a room with a wooden door and visible window.

Meanwhile, Kat started to harbour doubts that Jasmine may have been dishonest about the kiss, along with other matters, and voiced her concerns to Jean Slater (Gillian Wright), who remains convinced Jasmine m.u.r.d.e.re.d Anthony.

Subsequently, Jasmine unleashed a verbal assault on Cindy and warned that she would drag the Fords into the situation if Cindy persisted in opposing her.

But in an unexpected development, Cindy organised a clandestine encounter with Max, and the duo pledged to devise a method to eliminate Jasmine.

“She might be the sequel, but I’m the original,” Cindy declared. “And whatever we come up with, that nasty little problem child will never see it coming.”

EastEnders viewers are now certain that Max and Cindy will conspire to m.u.r.d.e.r Jasmine, which would account for Max’s puzzling arrest in the flash-forward sequence on New Year’s Day.

One viewer queried: “IS IT JASMINE THAT’S GETTING M.U.R.D.E.R.E.D? #EastEnders”, while another wrote: “Cindy and Max teaming up is a recipe for disaster #EastEnders.”

“Just watched tonight’s #EastEnders! I knew Cindy and Max would work together to bring down Jasmine. This now ties Cindy into the NYD 2027 stuff with Max, too. Also looks like Kat’s been speaking to Jean, and that’s why she’s suddenly turned on Jasmine”, chimed in another fan.
