Natalie Cassidy teases Sonia’s return date to Eastenders just one year after leaving
EastEnders icon Natalie Cassidy has revealed when she could return to Albert Square as beloved character Sonia Fowler - Plus gives her thoughts on plastic surgery
Natalie Cassidy, 43, has given an update on her beloved EastEnders character Sonia Fowler after she exited the soap in April 2025.
The actress played the Albert Square legend for more than two decades, having first left in 2007 before returning seven years later.
Natalie teased that we probably haven’t seen the last of Sonia.
Natalie revealed she left last year because she felt she needed to be “brave” and explore other avenues.
She’s since launched her own podcast and documentary series.
She said: “I was 41 and I thought ‘No I’ve got to get out of here’.
“It’s really weird because the pattern was, I started when I was ten, I did 12 years, had eight years off and then I went back for 12 and I left.”
Natalie quipped that maybe Sonia will pick up her infamous trumpet and return in 2033, adding: “So maybe I will go back in eight years you never know do you?”
Sonia exited Albert Square to jet off to Bali, cradling her newborn baby, and Natalie poked fun at the plot hole. She laughed: “She’s living it up in Bali she took her little baby to Bali who was about two days old with no passport, it’s hilarious.
“I don’t even think the birth was registered… But anything can happen in soap world!”
As well as discussing her soap future, Natalie also shared her thoughts on going under the knife for cosmetic reasons.
Speaking on Please Keep Me Anonymous, the star said: “I’ve never had any botox, never any injection in my life.
“I think we will make a fortune in years to come as it will become so rare to have had nothing done!”
Natalie did have a boob job when she was much younger, but it’s something she regrets now that she has two daughters.
She added: “I did have my boobs done years ago though, I was 19 or 21, I was much bigger down below and I wanted to even myself out, but that annoys me now having daughters it annoys me.”
