Two Emmerdale stars have revealed details about Cain and Moira Dingle’s future following their recent marital difficulties.

The cherished couple, portrayed by Jeff Hordley and Natalie J Robb, were recently brought back together when Moira was freed from jail, after she was falsely detained for Celia Daniels (Jaye Griffiths) and Ray Walters’ (Joe Absolom) crimes.

Despite their joyful reconciliation, Cain and Moira have subsequently argued. Moira has been attempting to persuade her spouse to undergo an operation following his prostate cancer diagnosis, resulting in numerous tense exchanges between the duo. The storyline escalated last week when Cain forgot Moira’s birthday.

The tension builds during Monday’s (April 27) episode, which is now available to stream on ITVX. Cain becomes annoyed that Moira is dedicating more time at her former farm instead of assisting him – creating an increasing rift between them, reports the Express.

Despite Robert Sugden’s (Ryan Hawley) objections, Moira remains determined to help, which only amplifies Robert’s remorse after Joe Tate (Ned Porteous) coerced him into placing forged documents at Butler’s Farm, resulting in her incarceration.

Later, detecting something wrong with his conduct, Moira demands he tells her the truth, with Robert revealing exactly what Joe forced him to do. Moira is crushed by his confession and presents him with an ultimatum: he must contact the police, or she will.

Actors Jeff and Natalie made an appearance on ITV’s This Morning to chat about their storyline, as viewers continue to speculate about their potential on-screen split.

“[Moira’s] taken her eye off this farm that [Cain’s] worked so hard to get for her while she’s been in prison, and she’s just going off not being involved,” Jeff revealed to presenters Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard. Natalie chimed in: “[She] can’t let go. It’s been 17 years up at that farm.”

Disclosing what unfolds after the Joe bombshell, Natalie went on: “There will be a shotgun involved. There’s always a shotgun involved. If you endanger her family, that’s it, the gun comes out, but on Joe Tate. She goes round there with every intention to m.u.r.d.e.r him.”

The pair also discussed the significance of Cain’s prostate cancer plot, which Jeff branded a “really humbling” experience for him as an actor. “He doesn’t want things to change between him and Moira,” the actor revealed. “Underpinning all of this is the love story between Cain and Moira as well.”

Natalie concluded: “We’re still married – that’s quite something in soapland!”

On Wednesday (April 29), Emmerdale will air a special instalment focusing on Cain and Moira’s marital troubles. Cain battles to discuss his continuing anxieties about his condition. He then worries his friend, Liam Cavanagh (Jonny McPherson), when he hints it might be wise to call off the operation. Meanwhile, Moira confides in her sister-in-law Chas (Lucy Pargeter) about the precarious state of her relationship with Cain. This follows a wave of concern among Emmerdale fans regarding Cain and Moira’s marriage.

“I really hope they don’t split Cain and Moira up,” one individual posted on a Facebook fan page, with another chiming in: “Omg Moira and Cain can’t split, I wouldn’t be able to cope.” A third voiced: “I am worried because it looks like Cain and Moira are headed for a divorce.”

Emmerdale airs weekday nights at 8pm on ITV1 and STV, while Coronation Street airs weekday nights at 8.30pm on ITV1 and STV as part of ITV’s new soap power hour scheduling pattern for Coronation Street and Emmerdale
