Emmerdale’s Kev reaches a dark place as Vinny tells major lie about him

Vinny Dingle’s (Bradley Johnson) past with his violent father is now beginning to impact Lewis Barton’s (Bradley Riches) relationship with dad Kev Townsend (Chris Coghill) in Emmerdale.
Yesterday, Kev was busy putting the finishing touches to Lewis’ birthday cake. He had worked incredibly hard to create the masterpiece, determined to make his son’s day as special as possible.
Kev took the cake over and Lewis was touched to realise it had been decorated to look like his favourite jumper. Everything was going well, which in soapland only means one thing…trouble was just around the corner for them.
The danger came in the form of Steve (Jason Done), Kev’s old mate. Back in the day, the crime committing duo would rob places together, and Steve was in the village hoping to do the same thing.
Kev did his best to stop Steve, and the situation was spotted by Vinny. The two men got in a car with a crowbar and drove away, and Vinny assumed they were off to cause trouble.
It didn’t take Vinny long to tell Ross Barton (Michael Parr) and Lewis what he had seen. When Kev arrived at Dale View, he was faced with a very heartbroken Lewis, who believed he had been let down again.
Kev protested his innocence, but no-one was prepared to listen. He ended up getting in a scuffle with Ross, which eventually saw Kev accidentally punch Lewis in the face.
I’ve got to hand it to Lewis, he clearly sees something in Kev that others don’t. In today’s episode of the ITV soap, he forgave Kev for the situation that unfolded yesterday, which meant they quickly got back to developing their bond.
When Vinny arrived in the cafe, he made it clear that he didn’t want to spend time with Lewis if Kev was going to be around. Lewis encouraged his dad to try and connect with Vinny, and Kev happily did as he was told.
At Dale View, Kev tried his best, but the trauma Vinny suffered at the hands of his abusive father Paul Ashdale meant he assumed that Lewis’ dad was the same.
Vinny panicked being alone with Kev, and tried to push him out of the house. Just as Kev tried to get Vinny off him, Lewis walked in. It was awfully timed, because Lewis assumed that Kev was attacking his boyfriend.
This would’ve been the right moment for Vinny to tell Lewis what really happened, but he couldn’t bring himself to do so.
Vinny later confessed what he had done to Mandy Dingle (Lisa Riley), and how he won’t tell Lewis the truth because he thinks Kev shouldn’t be in his life. Mandy pointed out that Vinny cannot pick and choose who Lewis speaks to, but he seemed pretty convinced that he was doing the right thing.
It seems Vinny’s lie has caused Kev to burn his bridge with Lewis for good. At the Anderson household, a spiralling Kev told Steve that it was time for people to know who he really is.
But what exactly will he do next?
Friendly reminder that after Kev got dumped by Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley), he held him, Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller) and Liam Cavanagh (Jonny McPherson) hostage with a sword, struggling to deal with the loss.
If there’s one thing we’ve learnt about Kev, it’s that when he’s emotional, he’s capable of absolutely anything.
