Bear’s true fate was confirmed on Emmerdale on Thursday night, as Ray’s k.i.l.l.e.r was also exposed.
In flashbacks we found out Paddy’s father Bear was still alive, weeks after claims he was d.e.a.d. Celia Daniels had told Ray she’d k.i.l.l.e.d him, and he then k.i.l.l.e.d her.
But as Ray’s own reign of terror came to a gruesome end this week, we finally found out how he died and who was to blame. Ray had made a number of enemies with more than one villager out for blood.
The episode confirmed that Ray almost k.i.l.l.e.d two more villagers before his own demise, as he turned on Paddy and teen Dylan Penders. It was as Ray tried to k.i.l.l them both that Bear made his sudden return.

Coming across the scene, Bear watched as Ray tried to spin a lie about Paddy and Dylan, after months of manipulating him. He was amazed that Bear was alive, but Paddy wasted no time in telling his dad what had just happened.
Paddy confirmed that they needed help as Ray was going to k.i.l.l them both, but Bear didn’t seem to understand. Ray kept telling Bear to wait outside ahead of his plan to flee the village, no doubt wanting rid of Paddy and Dylan first.
It looked as though Bear was going to leave but he suddenly returned to save Paddy, taking violent action. He grabbed Ray and held his harm against his throat, trying to stop him from hurting anyone.
Bear didn’t mean to k.i.l.l. Ray, but Ray suddenly stopped moving and slumped. Paddy had shouted out, as had Dylan, for Bear to stop as “he was k.i.l.l.i.n.g. him”.

With that, Ray was d.e.a.d, and Paddy and Dylan reeled over what had just happened, with Bear also in shock. But there were clues all along that Bear was still alive, and also that he might turn k.i.l.l.e.r.
When Bear’s d.e.a.t.h was announced, the show didn’t make a fuss and the actor wasn’t confirmed to have left. There was no word from actor Joshua Richards.
Not only that, but his d.e.a.t.h didn’t happen on screen and so it was literally Celia’s word that was the apparent confirmation. We did see Ray step into the farmhouse and apparently see Bear’s d.e.a.d body.
But we only saw Bear’s legs, and Ray didn’t even go over to him to check if he was really d.e.a.d. From that moment onwards he was never onscreen, and not buried.
The fact his body was just left and wasn’t discovered probably meant that after that scene with Ray, the body wasn’t there anymore. While soaps love a d.e.a.t.h, there’s also the fact Emmerdale had already k.i.l.l.e.d off Celia, John Sugden and then Ray.
So what were the chances they’d really k.i.l.l off Bear too, meaning four d.e.a.t.h.s in the same week. This is unusual for the soap, so maybe this was a giveaway. As for the fact Bear would be the k.i.l.l.e.r, some fans had predicted it.
Possible clues included the fact that the named suspects were far too obvious, and how often does a soap actually end up choosing a named suspect as a k.i.l.l.e.r? There were no real concrete clues or motives that Laurel, Marlon or Rhona were the k.i.l.l.e.r.
As for Bear, it was only a matter of time before he learned the horrifying truth about Ray’s manipulation. Once he knew the truth given all he had been through, including Anya’s d.e.a.t.h, Paddy’s own possible demise would have been his breaking point leading to him snapping.
