Emmerdale fans livid as legend is ‘replaced’ after 21 years on ITV soap

Emmerdale fans are not happy after a Dales legend has been ‘replaced’ on the ITV soap.

On the programme this week, k.i.l.l.e.r John Sugden (Oliver Farnworth) pulled husband Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller) off a gorge with him. Moments before, John confessed all about his sick crimes to Aaron.

Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley) then showed up to save Aaron but John staged a call to the emergency services and claimed that Robert was threatening him.

In a devastating twist, John ended up jumping off the cliff and he took Aaron with him. Emergency services arrived and whisked the pair off to hospital where it was revealed that Aaron was placed into an induced coma following a bleed on the brain.

Meanwhile, Robert was then arrested for the attempted m.u.r.d.e.r, despite protesting his innocence to everyone in the village.

And in Thursday’s episode (September 11) Robert was questioned by the police at the station about the crime he did not commit.

However, fans were quick to moan that the copper assigned to the case was not show favourite PC Swirling (Andy Moore).

A new detective made their debut

The copper, played by Andy Moore, has been on the ITV soap since 2004, making him one of the longest-serving recurring characters. And over the years, he has often been seen dealing with the village’s various misdemeanours.

As a result, PC Mike Swirling has become well-known in the village and many residents, particularly the Dingle clan.

And with a new detective making their debut this week, fans fear the character of PC Swirling could have left. On X, one person said: “Wheres swirling? Is he on leave or something??”

Another added: “This new copper is s***. Where’s our Swirling?” A third chimed in: “Where’s Swirling when we need him?!” Someone else fumed: “Where’s PC Swirling when you need him? So underused, that guy. He should team up with Cain to show the truth.”

Emmerdale airs weeknights on ITV1 and ITVX at 7.30pm
