Emmerdale fans in tears as soap pays tribute to beloved character after d.e.a.t.h

Emmerdale viewers were left feeling emotional after a heartfelt tribute on Wednesday.

Emmerdale fans were in tears as the soap paid tribute to a beloved character after their d.e.a.t.h.

It’s been a busy few weeks on the ITV drama, following John Sugden’s (Oliver Farnworth) crimes finally coming to light.

The villain notably pulled himself and his husband Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller) off a cliff, before blackmailing Caleb Miligan (William Ash) into helping him escape abroad.

Elsewhere, Vinny Dingle (Bradley Johnson) has been preparing to testify against his attacker Mike (Macaulay Cooper), while keeping the truth from his new wife Gabby Thomas (Rosie Bentham), who has a dark secret of her own.

Another ongoing storyline involves April Windsor (Amelia Flanagan), who has been reluctantly dealing drugs for Ray Walters (Joe Absolom) in an attempt to pay off Dylan Penders’ (Fred Kettle) debt.

During Wednesday’s (October 1) episode, which is now available to stream on ITVX, Aaron tried to get his life back on track after John’s departure, while his mum Chas (Lucy Pargeter) prepared to mark an important day.

“Who’s the flowers for?” Aaron asked, with Chas replying: “For Grace, it’s her birthday. Me and Paddy are going up to her grave in a bit.”

Soap viewers will recall that Grace was Chas and Paddy Kirk’s (Dominic Brunt) daughter, who only lived for 29 minutes after her birth in 2018.

Chas notably became worried at her twenty-week scan after the sonographer noticed something concerning. A consultant soon diagnosed Grace with Bilateral Renal Agenesis, a condition where both the kidneys and bladder fail to develop.

The doctor explained to Chas that her unborn daughter wouldn’t survive. Although Paddy initially suggested terminating the pregnancy, the couple decided to go to term and donate their daughter’s organs.

Elsewhere on today’s episode, Paddy paid a visit to Butlers Farm to check on one of Moira’s (Natalie J Robb) animals.

“I hear it’s Grace’s birthday today,” Moira then said, before Paddy confirmed that his daughter would have been seven. He added: “Me and Chas are going to take her a present later, it’s a bit of a tradition that we do every year.”

Several Emmerdale viewers were left feeling emotional after the mention of Grace, with many taking to social media to share their thoughts.

“Aw it’s Grace’s 7th heavenly birthday,” one person wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

Another added: “That was so sweet of them to mention Grace. Such a sad storyline,” while a third said: “Aww that’s made me emotional hearing Paddy and Chas talking about Grace.”

Emmerdale airs weeknights on ITV1 at 7.30pm and is available to stream from 7am on ITVX
