Emmerdale fans have been left heartbroken after reports emerged that one of the ITV soap’s longest serving cast members has been axed, with his character set to be killed off on-screen. Nick Miles has been a part of the Yorkshire-based soap since 2004 and has appeared in more than 2,000 episodes – but 2026 is the end of the road, according to The Sun.

Sources told the publication that his character Jimmy King will die in a dramatic plot involving his ex-wife Sadie King after actress Patsy Kensit’s return to the Dales. A source said: “Everyone is shocked and it shows that no one is safe from the budget cuts.

“Bosses are under pressure to cut costs and sadly that means popular cast members being told their time is up.”

They went on: “Once the decision was made that Nick would be leaving, the writers quickly realised his character wouldn’t abandon his wife and children so they had to kill him off.”

The change in pace is reportedly the reason Patsy was approached about making a return.

Jimmy was the last of the King brothers left alive after the deaths of his brothers Max, Matthew and Carl, and their father Tom.

He is not the only major character set to exit soon, with Olivia Bromley also reportedly leaving her role as Dawn Fletcher later this year.

Reportedly the decision to axe her “has not gone down well at all” within the cast.

Fans have been left devastated by the recent reports, with one tweeting: “The huge Emmerdale exit news has floored me. One of my favourites, a long timer and one half of one of the best couples. Gutted.”

Another said: “I get they haven’t given Jimmy a SL for years now but do wonder if they’ll regret their decision long term just for quick shock value. They must look back and regret killing Liv, Val and Faith now, as they brought 2 of those back from the dead (sort of).”

Someone else echoed: “Do we have time to start a petition?”
