Emmerdale exit ‘exposed’ after 14 years as Dr Todd ‘holds legend hostage’
Emmerdale fans are convinced they've worked out a soap legend's exit after 14 years
Fans of Emmerdale believe they’ve worked out Vanessa Woodfield’s departure after 14 years.
ITV soap viewers will recall that Vanessa (portrayed by Michelle Hardwick) first arrived in the Dales back in 2012 when Rhona Goskirk (Zoe Henry) brought her on board at the veterinary practice.
Since then, Vanessa has been at the centre of numerous gripping storylines, including a devastating bowel cancer battle, her relationship with Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins), and being taken captive by murderer Pierce Harris (Jonathan Wrather).
Last year brought fresh heartache when “the love her life”, Suzy Merton (Martelle Edinborough), died in the limo crash that also took the lives of Leyla Harding (Roxy Shahidi) and Amy Barton (Natalie Ann Jamieson).
However, Vanessa remained oblivious to the fact that Suzy had actually fallen for Rhona’s mum, Mary (Louise Jameson), before her death, and had wanted to be with her instead, reports the Express.
A fresh love interest might be brewing for Vanessa as she’s recently let Dr Caitlin Todd (Caroline Harker) move into her spare room, after her sister Tracy Robinson’s (Amy Walsh) exit.
What Vanessa doesn’t realise is that Dr Todd has been terrorising her protégé, Jacob Sugden (Joe-Warren Plant), prompting the youngster to file an official complaint with HR.
The bullying plot took a dramatic turn on Wednesday (May 6) when Jacob confronted Todd after she spitefully suggested to Sarah (Katie Hill) that her husband was eager to get back to work, despite their newborn baby. An irate Jacob later cornered Todd in the Woolpack corridor and warned her against lying to his wife.
Vanessa walked in on the confrontation, before later seeking out Jacob at the shop. “You clearly have a problem with a female boss. There’s some weird power dynamic going on with you,” Vanessa raged.
She continued: “I only see one liar and it isn’t your boss… Stay away from her, do you hear me? Because if I have to, I will make sure there will be real consequences… I hate saying this, Jacob, but honestly, your mother would be ashamed of you.”
After witnessing Vanessa’s heated confrontation with Jacob, Sarah demanded an explanation, leading to Jacob finally admitting to all of Todd’s harassment. As Jacob tearfully confessed to the bullying, Sarah consoled him and vowed that they would tackle the issue together.
Emmerdale fans were left seething after Vanessa’s tirade, with many now predicting her departure from the Dales. “Vanessa was awful in tonight’s ep with the way she was speaking to Jacob,” one viewer posted on a Facebook fan page.
Another chimed in: “She’ll probably fall in love with Todd and they’ll leave together,” while a third speculated: “What if Todd holds her hostage like Pierce did? What a twist!”
A fourth fan echoed the sentiment, saying: “Vanessa always gets the wrong end of the stick. She’ll get a shock when she finds out what Todd’s really like,” with another similarly sharing: “I was really angry today with this episode and how Vanessa treated Jacob.”
In scenes due to air next week, Mary tries to match Vanessa and Dr Todd. Vanessa asks her flatmate out and they arrange a date. However, when Todd later reveals that she has inherited her late father’s home in Matlock, Vanessa worries that the distance will impact their relationship, so she suggests they remain friends. Will Todd agree?
