Soap stars often become like family after spending years working together on the same show - but some actors are actually related in real life, too.

Soap stars often form strong bonds while filming long-running shows, and it’s no surprise that they frequently liken each other to family. Devoted fans who have followed the actors for years may be unaware that many stars have real-life family ties away from our television screens.
Popular soaps Emmerdale, Coronation Street, and EastEnders are home to numerous family members working together or appearing on rival shows but still supporting each other along the way.
One of the famous siblings even worked together on the same soap and played brother and sister on screen.

Let’s examine the real-life soap stars who are siblings, starting with the Swash and Thomas brothers, reports Lancs Live.

Isabella, Amelia and William Flanagan
The Flanagan family is one of the largest and most recognised real-life soap families. Isabella and William Flanagan are real-life twins, although they play cousins Hope Stape and Joseph Brown on Coronation Street.
Meanwhile, their older sister, Amelia Flanagan, plays April Windsor on Emmerdale. The talented acting trio’s proud parents often praise their children on social media and provide a glimpse into their lives away from the soaps.
Joe and Shana Swash
Former king of the jungle, Joe Swash, first made his mark hanging around Albert Square. He was well known for his role as Mickey Miller from 2005 to 2011 on EastEnders and shared the screen with his real-life sister Shana, who played his on-screen sibling Demi.
Ryan and Adam Thomas
Ryan Thomas was just a lad when he first appeared on Coronation Street on Christmas Day in 2000 as Jason Grimshaw. He bid farewell to the popular ITV soap in 2016.
Meanwhile, in 2009, his younger brother Adam Thomas joined rival soap Emmerdale as Adam Barton, a role he played until 2018. The brothers also have another famous sibling, Scott Thomas, who starred on Love Island in 2016 and 2025.

Nick and John Pickard
In the soap opera realm, Nick and John Pickard distinguish themselves as a brotherly pair. The former embodies the enduring character Tony Hutchinson on Hollyoaks, whilst his sibling John brought life to Tony’s on-screen brother Dom between 2005 and 2010.
Sebastian and Gabrielle Dowling
Sebastian and Gabrielle Dowling established themselves portraying Emmerdale twins Cathy and Heath Hope, the offspring of Viv and Bob Hope, who initially emerged in 2007.
Sebastian’s character Heath devastatingly perished in a heart-wrenching New Year car crash storyline last year, though Gabrielle’s Cathy continues as part of the soap’s core cast.
Amy, Sally and Kimberly Walsh
Emmerdale star Amy Walsh is widely recognised for her portrayal of Tracy Metcalfe since 2014, yet she isn’t the sole gifted member of her household.
Her sister Sally portrayed Lyn Hutchinson from 1997 to 2000, and they’re additionally connected to former Girls Aloud member Kimberly Walsh, alongside their brother Adam.
Will and Peter Ash
Coronation Street’s Peter Ash, who played Paul Foreman, maintains family connections with his cousin Will Ash in the soap drama sphere, depicting Caleb Milligan in Emmerdale.
Following news of Will’s Emmerdale arrival in 2022, Peter utilised Twitter to voice his admiration: “Yes! This is my cousin, Will! He’s an absolutely fantastic actor, and was one of my big inspirations for getting into acting myself! Can’t wait to see him do his stuff in #Emmerdale!”
Brooke Vincent and Ellie Leach
Brooke Vincent, widely recognised for her role as Sophie Webster, was a mainstay on Coronation Street from 2004 until her exit in 2019.
In 2011, Brooke was thrilled when her younger cousin Ellie Leach joined the cast of Coronation Street as Faye Windass, a role she played until 2023. Ellie went on to clinch victory in Strictly Come Dancing in 2023 with Vito Coppola.
Charley Webb and Jamie Lomas
Charley Webb is known for her portrayal of the iconic character Debbie Dingle from 2002 until 2021. She has since featured in several shows, including The Long Shadow.
However, she’s not the only soap star in her family. Her real-life brother Jamie Lomas has been playing Hollyoaks legend Warren Fox since 2006 but left the Channel 4 soap earlier this year.

Greg Wood and Matt Milburn
Coronation Street fans were taken aback to discover that two characters who never crossed paths on the iconic cobbles were actually related in real life.
Matt Milburn, who plays the role of renowned footballer Tommy Orpington on Coronation Street, had a fling with Tracy Barlow earlier this year. Yet, he’s not the only one in his family with ties to the soap.
His actual brother, Greg Wood, played the notorious loan shark Rick Neeson on the programme.
