Emmerdale confirms tragic news for Dingle family leaving Cain heartbroken
Emmerdale has aired an update on the Dingle family's beloved dog Monty, leaving the family heartbroken.

Emmerdale has revealed the fate of the Dingle family’s beloved dog, Monty, and it’s devastating. Earlier this week, Kyle Winchester (Huey Quinn) resorted to his preferred unhealthy coping strategy, setting fires, following a disagreement with father Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley). However, the youngster was oblivious to Monty being trapped inside the shed as flames engulfed it.
Cain responded swiftly and succeeded in rescuing Monty from the inferno, rushing him to a vet, where Paddy Kirk (Dominic Brunt) revealed that he had sustained severe smoke inhalation. During Wednesday’s trip to the village (July 8), Paddy visited Wishing Well Cottage to provide an update on the beloved pet, who originally belonged to patriarch Zak Dingle (Steve Halliwell), and disclosed that Monty has cancer.

He informed Cain, Moira (Natalie J Robb), Belle (Eden Taylor-Draper), Sam (James Hooton), and Lydia (Karen Blick) that the prognosis for their pet wasn’t promising, leaving them all clearly upset, reports the Daily Star.
Paddy explained: “The tests have confirmed Monty does have cancer, and it’s metastatic. There is a tumour on his spleen that’s spread to the lungs, which is why the smoke inhalation knocked him for six.”
Sam chipped in: “He’s going to die then,” as Paddy nodded his head in agreement. He later confirmed: “It’s quite an aggressive form”, as Lydia asked: “Would he have any quality of life?”
“Well, he’s already been known by the smoke damage,” Paddy replied, “So he’s still got to get over that. But you know, he’s eating well, and he’s still alert. There will be good moments. Give the right treatments, and we can keep him comfortable.”

Cain, who has been diagnosed with prostate cancer and is refusing treatment, responded: “Being comfortable isn’t the same as living, though, is it?”
Moira attempted to comfort her husband, suggesting they could still enjoy quality time together with their beloved pet and urged that Monty deserved the chance to relish whatever life he had left — though Sam was having none of it.
Shortly afterward, Cain picked Monty up from the veterinary practice, where Paddy urged him to give his faithful companion more time and cherish every moment they had together.
The encounter gave Cain much to contemplate, ultimately prompting him to reverse his decision and resume treatment for his prostate cancer — a move that left his loved ones overjoyed.
