Emmerdale airs its darkest scenes in months tonight – here’s what happens to Vinny

Emmerdale spoilers follow from Tuesday’s episode (12 August), which is available to watch now on ITVX and YouTube but hasn’t yet aired on ITV1.

Emmerdale has aired a dark twist for Vinny Dingle as newcomer Mike’s true colours are finally revealed.

Viewers know that Vinny has been feeling confused about his sexuality after developing a crush on Kammy Hadiq.

The scrap dealer hid his feelings from his fiancée Gabby Thomas, instead turning to the internet for support and clarity. While online, Vinny befriended a man named Mike who was going through the same situation.

In tonight’s episode, a panicked Mike arrives in the village, claiming that his partner Kate has kicked him out after going through his phone. Vinny explains that Gabby is away on a spa break, giving the pair time to openly talk.

While comforting Mike, Vinny admits that he still can’t get Kammy out of his head. Mike insists there’s also an attraction between himself and Vinny, but the latter says they’re just friends.

“Is that why you invited me over then, when your missus is out?” Mike counters. “You thought you could get me into bed, didn’t you?”

Things turn nasty when Vinny rejects Mike’s advances and asks him to leave. Mike reveals that everything he’s told Vinny is a lie and threatens to destroy his family if he doesn’t meet his demands.

In horrifying scenes, the villain violently attacks Vinny, beating him up before demanding £10,000. He threatens Vinny with a recording of their conversation, admitting he’s “done this before”.

“You lot are vermin. That’s why you followed that trail of poison I laid down for you,” Mike taunts. “And the good thing is you talk and talk and talk…”

Their conversation is interrupted by Gabby, who thinks she’s left her phone at home. However, when Charles appears with the missing item she heads off to her spa break – leaving Vinny at the mercy of the scammer.

Terrified Vinny helplessly watches as Mike steals his and Gabby’s wedding rings from the table before making his exit.

Later, the vicious attack brings up terrible memories for Vinny, as he suffers flashbacks of his dad’s physical abuse. Will he continue to suppress his true feelings at the expense of his mental health?
