There’s a baby bombshell on EastEnders next week, that could confirm a worrying flashforward fan theory.

In January this year we saw a glimpse into the future, witnessing the events of January 1 2027. Amid the drama that was teased, two characters were missing and we also saw a mystery baby named Ethan.

Fans predicted the baby, being looked after by Jack Branning, could be the child of Penny Branning and her new flame Vinny Panesar. New spoilers have now confirmed this is definitely possible as next week, Penny announces she is pregnant.

This will no doubt make fans worry that something happens to Penny and Vinny given in January next year, Jack is seemingly caring for a baby that could well be Penny’s child. Now, actress Kitty Castledine, who plays Penny, has teased her and Vinny’s future on the BBC soap.

She shared: “They have never crossed paths on the Square, despite the numerous dramas between the Panesars and the Brannings in the past. But none of that matters when it comes to Penny and Vinny, as he’s everything Penny has never had in a relationship.

“She has always gone for a bad boy, and the beauty of Penny and Vinny is that they are honest with each other. He brings out a soft, warm side of Penny, something we’ve never seen from her before.

“They can learn a lot from each other; they both have qualities the other could benefit from. Penny is feisty, dominant, and always says what she thinks, and Vinny needs to stand up for himself against his mum and family. Penny could learn from Vinny’s kind‑natured heart and his good values, qualities she believes she doesn’t naturally possess.”

So it seems the new couple could last, and may have a future. Kitty certainly thinks they could work, but whether Penny goes through with the pregnancy remains to be seen.

This means baby Ethan might not be Penny and Vinny’s child. On Penny’s reaction to her pregnancy news, Kitty confessed: “She wants to bury her head in the sand and hide from the reality of potentially being pregnant.

“The idea of becoming not only a young mum, but a young mum who is disabled, is something she isn’t ready to face. She’s very independent and wouldn’t lean on someone unless she absolutely had to. It brings up a lot of feelings she wasn’t prepared to confront.”

Kitty went on: “She’s scared. The reality of potentially becoming a disabled young mum is overwhelming and hard to take in. She goes through waves of emotion, just like many new mums do when they find out they’re unexpectedly pregnant.

“The more she opens up to people, the more she realises she has a support network around her. She also wants to buy herself some time to process everything and figure out how she truly feels about it and what she plans to do.”
