EastEnders viewers are speculating that Joel Marshall’s days are numbered, following whispers that the actor has bid farewell to the soap.

Joel, portrayed by Max Murray, first graced Walford in March this year, arriving on the square alongside his father Ross (Alex Walkinshaw) and stepmother Vicki Fowler (Alice Haig).

The troubled lad quickly stirred up a storm with his despicable actions as part of a chilling new storyline centred around radical misogyny.

Joel’s misdeeds include secretly recording women – even capturing an intimate moment with Avani Nandra-Hart (Aaliyah James) – trolling Stacey Slater (Lacey Turner) online, and issuing vile threats towards Vicki.

However, events took a dark turn last week when Joel viciously assaulted Vicki, leaving her unconscious. The iconic character was subsequently rushed to hospital, reports OK!.

While recuperating, a shaken Vicki ended her relationship with Ross. Upon discovering degrading videos of women on Joel’s laptop, Ross handed his son over to the police.

Consequently, Joel was arrested and is currently detained. In Thursday’s episode (October 16), Ross found himself dealing with the fallout from Joel’s actions.

With Joel severing ties, Ross drowned his sorrows as the rest of Walford turned against him. However, Harvey Monroe (Ross Boatman) showed some compassion, recognising Joel’s struggle and offering him temporary accommodation.

Moreover, this week saw reports that Max Murray, who plays Joel, is set to depart the BBC soap. An insider told Metro: “There’s still lots to come in the weeks ahead that will leave viewers on the edge of their seats.”

When approached by Reach for a comment, an EastEnders spokesperson chose not to respond.

However, speculation is rife among fans that Joel’s exit could involve a shocking m.u.r.d.e.r plot. On a Facebook fan page dedicated to EastEnders, viewers are theorising that Ravi Gulati (played by Aaron Thiara) might be the one to do the deed.

One fan speculated: “I wonder if someone m.u.r.d.e.r.s Joel at Christmas like Ravi.” Another added: “Yea I hope it’s Ravi who k.i.l.l.s Joel after what Joel did to Avani.” A third agreed: “That could happen.”
