D.e.a.t.h in Paradise star Shantol Jackson has teased some details about what’s in store for her character in the new series.

The BBC crime drama follows police on the fictional Caribbean island of Saint Marie, but is actually filmed on the island of Guadeloupe. The action usually takes place around the island, with viewers admiring the picturesque scenes.

But Shantol has now shared that her character, Detective Sergeant (DS) Naomi Thomas, is set for a change in the current series.

She went on: “We also have a hilarious group of theatre actors performing a Shakespeare play who were all so funny, we had a great time with them. The play was The Tempest, so we had a beautiful shipwreck set on the beach, which was fantastic.”

Naomi is also set to go on an unexpected adventure with Commissioner Selwyn (Don Warrington) during this series and Shantol revealed it was another memorable part of filming.

“Pairing up with Selwyn was one of my favourite moments of this series, it was so much fun,” she said.

“We also get to see a different side to Selwyn out working in the field.

“For Naomi, it’s like working with a different Inspector and learns so much from him during that time. There’s also the fact the case they’re pursuing is personal to them both, so they connected on both a professional and personal level.”

“We need more pairings of Naomi and Selwyn!” she said.

D.e.a.t.h in Paradise started in 2011 and it has become a favourite with viewers gripped by the mysterious goings on in Saint Marie.

The much-loved programme, which stars Don Gilet as DI Mervin Wilson, returned to TV screens last month for its long-awaited 15th series.
