Dᴇᴀᴛʜ Dᴇᴀᴛʜ in Paradise has officially confirmed a return date for its new season. The BBC has revealed that season 15 of the tropical detective show will begin on Friday, 30 January, at 9pm on BBC One – that’s just over two weeks away!

Ex-EastEnders star Don Gilet will be back as DI Mervin Wilson, while viewers can also expect fan-favourite character Commissioner Selwyn Patterson (Don Warrington) to be back after deciding to leave at the end of the last season. The Christmas special revealed his desire to change course and head back.

“Selwyn’s return to Saint Marie is disrupted by a dramatic Dᴇᴀᴛʜ at his offices, where a man has fallen from the roof. Meanwhile, a new family connection arrives in Mervin’s life,” the synopsis for the new episode teases.

In Digital Spy‘s review of the Christmas special, we argued that it will silence criticism that Mervin is too prickly, notably when he eventually manages to connect with his long-lost brother.

Speaking before the festive episode, Gilet told Radio Times of what was in store for fans: “I don’t have to defend Mervin. This family thing that he’s never had but he’s always wanted, now it’s there, and he’s frightened.

“I think you’re going to see a vulnerable side [to him]. Work is not a vulnerable thing for him. He can solve crimes with his eyes closed, it’s what he does, it’s what he’s brilliant at.”

He added: “This is what home is. When you feel comfortable. It doesn’t mean you have to be related to them.

“For Mervin, it’s getting to that place where he feels he can trust these people around him to show another side of him,” he said.

Alongside Dᴇᴀᴛʜ in Paradise, the BBC franchise has also produced the spin-offs Beyond Paradise and Return to ParadiseBeyond Paradise, starring Sally Bretton and Kris Marshall, recently aired a Christmas special too.
