BBC hit by complaints over EastEnders’ ‘inappropriate s.e.x scene’
The scene between husband and wife shocked some fans
ONE scene in a recent episode of EastEnders ruffled some viewers’ feathers and they rushed to BBC to complain.
In June, EastEnders showed how the loveable Alfie Moon continued to struggle with erectile dysfunction — a common side effect for men such as him who have had treatment for prostate cancer.
The episode in question showed Alfie rebuff his wife Kat Slater’s advances after she shows up wearing s.e.x.y lingerie and attempts to seduce him, unaware of his erectile dysfunction.
When Alfie rejects her advances, Kat becomes upset after worrying about their s.e.x life.
And to make matters worse, she finds porn on a laptop at home and presumes it belonged to her husband.
Kat did not know that, in fact, that it was their son, Tommy, who had been the one watching porn.
Despite getting rave reviews for the educational story line about Alfie’s prostate cancer, some people were not happy with the scene and complained to the Beeb.
The BBC published its latest list of complaints and it showed a grievance for “inappropriate s.e.x.u.a.l content” during the June 10 episode.
The public broadcaster reviewed the complaint and decided it was “not upheld,” and the content was not inappropriate.
Alfie actor, Shane Richie, opened up to The Sun about the positive impact his prostate cancer storyline had on people.
Shane, 61, has played Alfie Moon on EastEnders for over two decades after he first joined the BBC One soap in 2002.
One in eight men will get prostate cancer in their lifetime, according to Prostate UK, who along with Macmillan Cancer Support, worked with Shane and the EastEnders writing team on the storyline.
Shane said in June: “I was going to events, men my age were coming up to me, but mostly women, wives saying ‘thank you so much for covering that storyline, because my husband, my brother… they don’t want to go to the doctors.’
“One guy in particular, and I don’t personally take credit for saving his life, but that storyline did.
“He got checked. His daughter was a big EastEnders fan, and just quite casually said, come on, we love Alfie, you should go and get checked and he did just to appease his daughter.
“He found out he had prostate cancer but it was at the early stages, had it left in any longer it could have been fatal. So if we just save one life, that’s the power of soaps.”
Shane took an extended break from Eastenders over the summer where he spent a month touring with best mates, Bradley Walsh, Brian Conley and Joe Pasquale.
