Former Emmerdale actress Adele Silva has revealed how she was just 48 hours from d.e.a.t.h after a burst ovarian cyst poisoned her body. The 26-year-old actress, best known for playing femme fatale Kelly Windsor, was rushed to Leeds General Infirmary last October after being struck down by crippling stomach pains. Paramedics initially suspected appendicitis – but emergency surgery uncovered something far more sinister.
“The doctor told me I was really lucky,” the ITV star said. “He said if I hadn’t been treated for another couple of days, it could have been fatal,” reports The Mirror. The ordeal left Adele terrified that she might never have children. “I panicked,” she admitted. “I started worrying about my fertility, and I realised just how much I wanted kids. Thankfully, despite having cysts on both my ovaries, I’ve been reassured I should be able to get pregnant.”

At the time, Adele, who ditched her raunchy outfits for an apron and chef’s when she competed on Hell’s Kitchen in 2008, was already facing personal upheaval after splitting from fiancé Antony Costa of boyband Blue.
“Things were coming to an end,” she revealed. “We only saw each other twice in seven weeks. I was throwing myself into work to take my mind off things, then I was struck down with these pains.”
She recalled filming through the agony: “I was in so much agony I was crying while I had my make-up done on set. I couldn’t sit up and they told me to go home.
“But when you’re filming you could be on your deathbed and you’d still go into work because you don’t want to let everyone down. So I managed to do the scene, but as soon as I got home to my flat in Leeds I called for an ambulance.”

Adele underwent a laparoscopy the following night, adding: “When I woke up the next morning I was disorientated, wondering where I was.
“Then the doctor came in and told me, ‘Well it wasn’t your appendix. You had a cyst on your ovary that burst and the poison from it was causing the pain.’ He then explained how lucky it was that they’d caught it when they did.”
Adele has since recovered, called time on her relationship, and decided to take a break from love. The actress explained: “When I was with Ant, any time off I had, I was rushing between Leeds and London and not looking after myself. Since then I’ve been enjoying me-time!”
