Inside Emmerdale Jimmy King star’s life from actor dad to romance with rarely-seen wife
As Jimmy King gets killed off on Emmerdale, we’re taking a look inside the actor Nick Miles’ life
Emmerdale legend Nick Miles has played Jimmy King on the soap for over two decades.
Jimmy (Nick Miles) has been a staple on the long-running ITV soap since 2004 – and it’s fair to say he has become one of the show’s beloved characters. He has also played a part in several big storylines.
From his beloved marriage to Nicola (Nicola Wheeler) to even being stabbed, Jimmy’s time in the Dales has not been short of drama. However, earlier this year it was reported that the character was going to be killed off.
And this week, soap legend Jimmy tragically died when his car crashed into Joe Tate (Ned Porteous) and Dawn Taylor’s (Olivia Bromley) marquee at their wedding. Away from the ITV soap though, actor Nick Miles’ life couldn’t be more different from his on-screen Dales alter-ego’s…
Nick’s Hollywood connection
Nick is obviously best known for playing Jimmy in Emmerdale but the talented star also dabbled in Hollywood. In 2002, Nick starred alongside Hollywood royalty in Martin Scorsese epic Gangs of New York.
He played an Atlantic Guard Leader, which also featured Leonardo DiCaprio and Daniel Day-Lewis. Talking about working with Leo, Nick previously told The Mirror: “He is quite shy but good humoured.”
He added: “I shared a brief exchange with him in the makeup room and I kind of wondered if I should be talking to him, but he was absolutely charming. He is shy, you can tell he is very self-contained most of the time.”
Nick and wife’s romance
Nick is married to Stephanie Lumb. The pair met for the first time in 2005, when the actor bought a flat opposite hers in central Leeds.
“I took her for a drink in Mojos bar. She had no idea I was on TV. It took her a bit of time to get used to it, and she gets jealous that my job sometimes gives me lie-ins. But she takes it all in her stride and enjoys it really,” Nick previously told The Mirror.
Going from strength to strength, seven months into their romance Nick popped the question, but Stephanie turned him down, with Nick saying: “In a way it didn’t matter because I knew I wanted to be with her anyway.”
Nick tried again and asked Stephanie to marry him, in which she said yes. The pair then tied the knot in December 2006 in Penrith, Cumbria, with just two friends as witnesses. “I just knew instinctively that she was right for me. She’s gorgeous, level-headed and we’re the perfect match,” he added.
Nick’s actor father
Nick grew up in Moseley, Birmingham, and it turns out he inherited his acting skills from his late dad John Bradney, a key figure on the city’s amateur dramatic scene.
The teacher was the actor-director of the MDCC Theatre Company, which stages open-air Shakespeare productions at several venues, including the Botanical Gardens.
Nick previously said: “He performed there every summer and loved the place. I donated two palm trees and his ashes are buried under one of them. I’m not sure about the legalities of the situation, but the gardener was kind enough to do it when planting the tree.”
Emmerdale airs Monday to Friday at 8:00pm on ITV1 and ITVX
