EastEnders fans have long predicted that Priya Nandra-Hart is pregnant, especially once she started her affair with Max Branning. The soap has now hinted that this is the case, as Priya took a pregnancy test in tonight’s episode.

Throughout the episode, Priya (Sophie Levy) had been acting off, starting with when she hid a pharmacy bag in her handbag. By the end of the show, she had also thrown up on bride-to-be Cindy Beale’s (Michelle Collins) hen do outfit. Scurrying off to the toilets of the Queen Vic, she was seen holding a test, looking like she was about to cry.

Following her affair with Max (Jake Wood), who just so happens to be Cindy’s fiance, fans were sure the father of Priya’s baby would be the future groom, even though it could also be her ex Ravi Gulati (Aaron Thiara). This was because at the New Year flashforward, Max was seen in bed with a mystery pregnant woman.

Fans aren’t so sure that this woman is Priya anymore, despite her pregnancy news. They felt it seemed “too obvious” and wondered if it would be a red herring.

“We’re all assuming it’s her in his bed because Max could be the dad,” one fan said. “But could the affair actually just be a plot device to make us think that? What if it’s actually someone from Max’s past he’s helping, a surprise return? The fact he immediately alerted her when the police were outside makes me think he’s protecting her from something.”

Another added that they thought one of Max’s most iconic exes would make a comeback, especially as her brother has already been confirmed to return. “I’ve always thought it was Stacey [Slater] – and now Sean is returning, she might not be far behind?”

Stacey (Lacey Turner) has been in Brazil with her brother Sean (Rob Kazinsky) since late last year, leaving just after Max returned to the Square. The two had a long history together, starting their on and off again relationship whilst Stacey was with his son Bradley (Charlie Clements). For actor Jake Wood, the Slater woman is one of the women Max loved the most, alongside his ex-wife Tanya (Jo Joyner).

The actor said at a press event last year: “Obviously, Tanya is very high, but I think probably Stacey as well. I think we saw that when Max came back a couple of months ago.

“The connection is still really strong between the pair of them; they really understand each other. I think wherever they are in different parts or wherever they are in their lives, they’d always have that connection. So, if you asked Max, he would probably say Stacey.”

Another fan agreed Stacey could be the pregnant woman, but thought it would make sense for it to be Tanya as well. “While I don’t want another re run of Stacey and Max (sorry but I will always be weirded out by that), I think this would be so good and actually makes sense with Sean coming back. Or Tanya, given her history with Max and the fact that Sean was so in love with her that he buried Max alive.”

Tanya and Sean had a brief fling when she first found out about Max’s affair with Stacey. He agreed to help her with her revenge plan, burying Max alive in a coffin. But Max survived and Sean and Tanya soon broke up, with Sean going on to marry Roxy Mitchell (Rita Simon) and Tanya moving on to Jack Branning (Scott Maslen), Max’s brother.
