Ronaldo confirmed the marriage on Instagram by sharing a photograph of the couple’s wedding bands alongside a simple caption featuring their initials and a heart.

A representative for the Portugal star also confirmed that Ronaldo and Georgina were now officially husband and wife, describing the ceremony as a private family occasion.

The wedding comes one year after the couple became engaged and follows years of speculation over when one of football’s most famous couples would finally marry.

Just days earlier, thousands of fans had gathered outside Funchal Cathedral amid rumours that Ronaldo and Georgina were preparing to wed there. Those reports proved incorrect, with the ceremony at the cathedral belonging to an unrelated Portuguese couple.

Ronaldo and Georgina first met in Madrid in 2016 while she was working at a Gucci store.

Georgina has previously recalled feeling an immediate connection when Ronaldo entered the shop with his eldest son and friends. As their relationship developed, Ronaldo would sometimes collect her from work in one of his luxury cars, a dramatic contrast to the bus journeys she normally made.

The pair confirmed their relationship publicly in early 2017 and soon began building a family together.

Later that year, Ronaldo welcomed twins Mateo and Eva via surrogacy before Georgina gave birth to their daughter Alana Martina in November.

In 2022, the couple experienced heartbreak when one of their newborn twins, a baby boy, died during childbirth. Their daughter Bella Esmeralda survived.

Ronaldo later spoke about how the tragedy strengthened his relationship with Georgina, saying they supported each other through one of the most difficult periods of their lives.

After years of questions about marriage, Ronaldo proposed in 2025 with a huge diamond ring reportedly worth around £1.5 million.

He later admitted the proposal had not been carefully planned. According to Ronaldo, his daughters unexpectedly encouraged him to give Georgina the ring at around 1am, making him realise it was the right moment.

The footballer described Georgina as the woman of his life and said the spontaneous proposal became a beautiful family memory.

He had previously joked that the wedding might take place after the World Cup, while also revealing that Georgina preferred private celebrations rather than extravagant parties.

That preference appears to have shaped their eventual ceremony.

Instead of a lavish public wedding surrounded by hundreds of guests, Ronaldo and Georgina chose a quiet civil ceremony with their children at the heart of the occasion.

After ten years together, shared triumphs, family milestones and devastating loss, the marriage marks a deeply personal new chapter for Ronaldo and Georgina — one celebrated away from the scale and spectacle that usually surrounds their lives.
