Lewis Barton may not be Kev Barton’s only relative in Emmerdale.

ITV soap viewers will know that Kev (played by Chris Coghill) first appeared in the village back in September 2025, where he was introduced as Robert Sugden’s (Ryan Hawley) estranged husband.

It was soon revealed that Kev and Robert got married in prison. The drama escalated when Kev arrived in the village to try and get Robert back, culminating in him holding his ex and Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller) hostage at The Mill with a samurai sword.

He later left the Dales, but has since returned to try and build a relationship with his son, Lewis (Bradley Riches), but it’s not been plain sailing.

Matters will be made even more difficult once Lewis finds out that his dad was responsible for attacking Billy Fletcher (Jay Kontzle) at the depot, a revelation that came to light during Tuesday’s (August 11) episode.

During the instalment, which is streaming now on ITVX, Caleb Miligan (Will Ash) revealed that he wanted to get revenge on Joe Tate (Ned Porteous) by framing him for Kev’s actions.

“Joe is everything that is wrong with the world. The system’s on his side. He’ll never get punished, he’ll just slip away like he always does. Not this time, because this time he loses,” Caleb said to his wife, Ruby (Beth Cordingly).

Caleb then revealed that he was willing to help Billy and his ex, Dawn (Olivia Bromley), escape Joe’s grasp with their children.

“We better make damn sure they can’t be found,” Ruby concluded.

As Kev tries to keep a huge secret from his son, he could be stunned by a shock family connection.

Speaking to press at a recent Emmerdale event in Leeds, Kev and Caleb stars Chris Coghill and Will Ash joked that their characters could be brothers, after they have played siblings several times before.

The actors have a long history of working together, which spans 25 years. They notably played brothers in the 2006 one-off comedy Magnolia and in a 2016 episode of Moving On. But could this tradition move on to Emmerdale too?

“It’s the fourth time we’ve worked together. I’m sick of the sight of him!” Chris joked, with Will adding: “We’re brothers.” Will then noted: “We haven’t had that many scenes… because our kind of worlds are quite separate on the show, really.”

Chris continued: “It’s nice to have done these little bits together, because it’s been 25 years. Yeah, so sweet, yeah.”

Reflecting on playing brothers several times and whether that could eventually come to light in Emmerdale, Chris said: “You never know!” before Will joked: “I’m probably his son!”

Chris then admitted: “I’d hate to be a Tate!”
