Emmerdale has aired the aftermath of Dr. Caitlin Todd’s death, leaving fans worried that one legend is about to exit the ITV soap.

Over the past few months, evil Dr. Todd (Caroline Harker) had been bullying Jacob Gallagher (Joe-Warren Plant) before blackmailing and sexually assaulting Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins), so it wasn’t long before the soap villain got her comeuppance.

Todd entered Charity’s home uninvited and refused to leave. In an unexpected development, Charity encouraged her attacker to stay and listen as she unpacked her trauma, but Todd refused to admit her actions.

Sarah Sugden (Katie Hill) made a quiet entrance to Jacob’s Fold and was horrified to hear of Todd’s disturbing assault, and an argument quickly ensued.

“Where do you think you are going?” Sarah demanded as Charity insisted that Todd vacate the premises. Sarah continued, “So she just gets away with it? First, she bullies my husband, and then she attacks you”, while Todd smirked.

As the altercation spiralled out of control, Sarah shoved Todd, who slipped on a rug, accidentally sending her crashing into a coffee table and dying instantly.

Serena Sugden (Casey Al-Shaqsy) arrived to check on Charity after she had witnessed a row between Todd and Vanessa Woodfield (Michelle Hardwick) in the street. The former copper told Charity to call the police and advised the two women on what to say about Todd’s death before leaving the scene.

On Tuesday (August 11), the police arrived and confirmed Todd was dead, with Charity taking the blame to protect her granddaughter, Sarah. Both Charity and Sarah were arrested and taken to the station for questioning as Jacob was seen distressed outside of the cottage.

Though they stuck to the story that Charity had pushed Todd away in self-defence, the detectives clearly weren’t convinced.

DS Ramsden (Chelsea Edge) left Charity horrified when she revealed her theory that Charity had killed Todd in revenge because the investigation into her rape hadn’t gone the way she’d hoped.

As Charity grew more frustrated and tired, she demanded to know when her questioning would be over, and felt deflated when DS Ramsden pointed out that they had a long way to go if they wanted to rule out a revenge killing.

Sarah was allowed to return to the village, where she reunited with baby Leyla, but Charity was forced to sleep at the police station overnight while the murder investigation continued.

Emmerdale fans are now fearing Charity’s exit, predicting she will be sent to prison for Todd’s murder.

Taking to Reddit, one person asked: “So, does anyone have the fear that Charity’s going to end up in prison for a while? could bring a temporary break for Emma Atkins after the big storyline. Or maybe a prison storyline?”

Sharing their theory of Charity’s exit, another explained: “I think Charity will go to prison for a while, and Mack moves to be near Charity’s prison so he can visit.

“Lawrence Robb, who will be on Strictly, will be going on a break soon, and not so long ago, Emma Atkins said she would like a break soon, and, to be fair, she’s been pretty much full-on the past decade or so, nonstop.”

A third chimed in: “The EP has said Mack/Charity is her favourite couple, and they are fan favourites so they won’t be splitting up.”

“Oh yes! Knowing how useless the police are in Emmerdale, she’s on her way. I’m still puzzling over what Serena was doing there & why no one in Emmerdale locks their doors? Especially since you just killed someone?”, added another as they predict Charity’s prison exit.

Taking to X, one viewer speculated: “Cant Believe Charity Is Going Out Of #Emmerdale”.”

Emmerdale airs weekdays on ITV and ITVX
