A shocking secret, a dangerous confrontation and a nightmare ahead: EastEnders fans brace for explosive drama

The BBC have announced that there will be a week of special episodes as several families find themselves at the centre of a huge drama, revealing the news in an ominous new trailer

The clock is ticking for several EastEnders favourites, counting down to a week of drama, where everything will change. A chilling new trailer for the BBC soap has been released, announcing a week of special episodes.

In the trailer, some of Walford’s biggest names appear to be gathered in the pub in their finery. They’re all enjoying a drink until the clock hand moves and David Bowie’s ‘Changes’ plays. Everything starts to tilt out of place and sirens can be heard before four characters – George Knight, Ian Beale, Denise Fox and Max Branning – look at the camera. While their smiles fade, an ominous voice warns that this is “the night that everything changes”.

According to the BBC, the night in question is Vicki and Ross’ wedding in June. After the wedding, the Beale, Branning, Knight-Mitchell and Fox-Trueman families will “find themselves at the heart of the drama”, but all for different reasons.

Over the course of a week, the same night will be explored, with new details emerging about what happened to each family and how this will effect them in the run up to New Year.

Posters released alongside the video reveal which characters will be drawn into the drama. Denise can be seen looking at the camera as an upside down Yolande Trueman and Jack Branning, her mother figure and husband, stand behind her. Fans have already been told that Denise is soon going to be diagnosed with blood cancer.

Meanwhile, Jack’s brother Max appears in another picture, with his children, Lauren Beale and Oscar Branning, behind one shoulder, and girlfriend Cindy Beale behind the the other.

George Knight is in the third poster with his partner Nicola Mitchell behind him. In this week’s EastEnders episodes, Nicola convinced George to take in his dying father, Eddie, so that he doesn’t have to die in prison – which he had been sent to after murdering George’s biological father Henry. Unbeknownst to George, Nicola was taking money from Eddie so that George’s restaurant and her bar don’t fail.

Finally, newly elected councillor Ian Beale is seen with an upset Chelsea Fox behind him. The two currently do not have any connection to each other, so it is uncertain why they have been paired together.

Around this dramatic night, EastEnders will almost be halfway between the New Year’s Day flashforward episode that aired on 1 January 2026 and the day when the events of that episode actually take place, 1 January 2027. Throughout this year, the gaps between the storylines teased in the flashforward are to be filled.

In particular, the episode teased major storylines surrounding Max Branning. On 1 January 2027, he is supposed to get married, yet wakes up with a mystery pregnant woman that is not his bride. Fans do not yet know who his bride or the pregnant woman are. Max is also going to be arrested for conspiracy to murder, but it is unknown who the victim is, and a mystery gunman takes his children hostage.
